STP # 13 in Top Rock Bands of All Time!!!

Wow, I can't believe they got the nod of fellow monster 90's acts like Guns N' Roses & Pearl Jam who have always been more commercially accessible. Great to see them finally getting the recognition they deserve.

Interesting, the five judges were three Baby Boomers & two Generation Exers.  The Gen Ex doesn't surprise me voting for STP.  I'm a Gen-X and so are the members of STP...makes sense.  I am surprised at the Baby Boomers going with STP though.  My dad is a Boomer (almost 60-rock on Pops) and loves STP but that's a rarity.  Most of his peers are the ones bitching about STP being a bunch of "racket."  Haha

That's an interesting list for sure, always nice to see STP beat out Nirvana and Radiohead in anything.  Although I think Nirvana deserves all the accolades they have been given, I think they get extra attention because of their dramatic end.  There are just so many bands on the list it is cool to see STP getting a little cred, I think if they put out a hit album here in the next year, critics and fans alike are going to consider them one of the great rock bands.  It helps that they put on the best rock show live in the country right now too!

I almost don't know how to react anymore.  Mostly, they're just trashed without rhyme or reason.  This is a nice change!!

I agree with whoever said if they come with a good 6th record it will potentially cement them to true legendary status-especially making one 17 or so years after Core.

Not that I don't like seeing STP near the top, but I can't really take that list seriously.

Because Black Eyed Peas are 100.

BEP as one of the great rock bands of all time? What? And Tool and Radiohead being rated so low in innovation???

Edit: Just read that it was a "start to the list" and that they're considering bands from every genre. Not sure why it's not "Top 100 bands of all-time" then, and that still doesn't explain some of those ratings.... Sorry to rain on the STP parade.

A good one.  Whether it is "popular" may not really matter.  Even if it is popular it won't sell like Core and Purple or even Tiny Music.

I did say "potentially".  As long as they stick to the music and don't do something stupid or corny.  They are already being viewed "differently" on this tour by critics than at any other time for the most part.  Combine that with a good album that sells reasonably well.....and who knows?

For me, the key things about this list are that:

1) It has been compiled with due diligence and worthwhile consideration of different aspects of a band's quality.

2) The panel's credentials are sound.

For example, I saw Jack Sonni live with Dire Straits (Zurich, 1985) - that man is one hell of a good guitar player. He got a featured solo which is pretty cool when you're on stage with the great Mark Knopfler. As far as I'm concerned, this just proves that talent knows talent and STP has a ton of respect from other musicians and people who know their stuff. It's all good.

oh yeah, i agree totally.  i don't know how ac/dc wasnt' in the top 10
same with nirvana?  not sure how that's logical

WOW, nice find.  It's always good to see them getting credit (esp since the media never gives em any.). 

There are a few bands that should be higher/lower (Stones), but collectively it's nice to see STP where they belong.  The black eyed peas should not be there... let alone in the top 100. (They're not even rock.)
