A lot of the songs mentioned here (Art School Girl, Tumble in the Rough, Heaven and Hotrods, Unglued) were all released as promo cds to radio stations.  I actually heard quite a few on the radio back in the day, but none devolped into a 'hit'.

Maybe depends on where you're at.  WMMS and KROCK here in Cleveland both "Crackerman," "Dead and Bloated," and "UnGlued" on a regular basis.  I love it.

I'm with Rob - "You Can't Drive Me Away" would have made a fab single.
As far as actual, released songs, I'd probably go with "Pop's Love Suicide."
How could they not notice it?! Because it's a little mint.  It's a Junior Mint!

I got you would prob caught fire on radio, but i think if the released sour girl and I got you back to back, the bands image would have taken a hit.

I agree and I think the choruses are too similar too. but it would've probably done well.

Definitely "Black Again."  The highlight of Shangri-La.  "Adhesive" would have been a great choice too.  Truth be told, as much as I love the heavy stuff (and that is what got me started on STP in middle school [I'm 29 now] I've grown to truly appreciate the more reflective side of the band, and let's face it, sing-alongable, mellower songs that chicks dig too are what make mainstream hits.

Purple: Unglued or Pretty Penny (I think they did get some radio airplay as a b-side)

Tiny Music: Tumble in the Rough (Again, I think this got some play as a b-side)

No. 4: Glide (I think this is their most underrated song, and with it's catchy bridge, would have been a better choice than No Way Out)

Shangri La: Coma, and Too Cool Queenie would have been more radio friendly than Hollywood Bitch IMO

art school girl, still remains, and church on tuesday.

Church on Tuesday couldv'e had an extreme level of potential.
I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but definitely think it's catchy enough for "pop/rock" radio charts.

ya know, stpwkdgdn, you reminded me of "COT" - another one of those great tunes I wouldn't have appreciated as a teenager, but now love.  It's a shame they don't do it live.

Unglued and Tumble In The Rough were both top ten hits.

I think "I Got You" might have suprised some people. I think it certainly had some crossover appeal. The only problem that I can see is that a lot of people might bitch that it sounds too Country. In actuallity though Country has been doing really well for the last few years. I think it could have done pretty well as a crossover single.

I was surprised at the "countryness" of this song when I first heard it.  I like it though.

It is a testament to the versatility of the boys though.  ;)

You're crazy.  There is no way in hell that Black Again and Adhesive would've been radio hits, regardless of how much you personally like them.
