STP Mach 3--second album speculation
« on: November 16, 2018, 03:56:47 AM »
When do you think STP will record a follow-up to their 2018 Butterfly album?

My guess is it will be released in 2020/2021. While I liked the new disc, I hope they take more chances with the follow-up. Also, I think maybe they should work with another label. Rhino didn't do a lot for their new disc.

I hope we don't have to wait so long for a new album.

They should most definitely work with a producer, preferably Brendan, but ya know - though I find it unlikely. Maybe on a new label, they can find it in their budget to get done.

A band that I'm a big fan of, Rival Sons, just signed to Atlantic and since, I've seen/heard their music everywhere from football games on tv to top rock playlists on streaming services. These little things make a difference. I understand that STP is established enough to not be a slave to a label deal, but they've never been a band to make the most of their direct-connection to the fanbase, so a band like STP needs a label to do that for them.

I haven’t listened to ‘Butterfly’ since April. It was okay but didn’t really have any lasting power for me.
Nothing matters again, I didn\'t think we\'d last that long

I haven't either.  I listened to it on Spotify while I played some games.  Might be good to listen now with fresh ears after these months

I still listen to the Butterfly album quite a bit.

I remember Jeff saying at one point over the summer that they had a bunch of ideas for new tunes bouncing around. I doubt a new release would come before another year goes by, though.

It would be nice if Jeff sang about... something... anything at all really. The music on Butterfly was nice. It was great to hear Kretz and the DeLeo bros back in action, but the words just did not resonate with me at all.

One thing I loved about STP was that they grew with me. Core was sex, drugs and rock and roll, and the later albums were about kids and divorce and struggles with addiction... things we all can relate to.

Maybe Jeff is trying to hard, but it all seems forced and trite.

Touring is where the money is, but the DeLeo Brothers love to record. I wouldn't be surprised if at least pre - production began next year for the follow up album.

With the huge gap of time in the Middle of their career I don't think they will wait very long I say late 2019 or at least they should record an ep so they can get back out on the road. We will see but I bet they want to get back in the Studio with Jeff quick to see what he's got now that they've been on tour for about a year.

I think the future releases from the band with Gutt are actually going to be a personality test more than a creative one. Basically, if they aren't pumping out albums and maintaining a band at this point, it could be safe to say that a big part of the problems of the past hinged on more than just Weiland.
There's no excuses left if STP aren't pumping out albums as they said was there goal with a new singer to bring them into and through the 2020's.
