to echo what purple said, I've met everyone in the band several times. Robert is one of the most down to earth, cool, and unassuming rock stars that walk the earth. A class guy all the way. And Dean has always been super nice. I never got egos, rudeness or anything negative from either Deleo. So people have their shit, they have problems, and divorce is messy. I am sure they have skeletons like all of us... but going by my experiences first hand, these guys have been nothing but pro, class and likable every time I've interacted with them.

Jenn mentioned Dean being diagnosed bi-polar. From these descriptions I think both Dean and Rob are, which makes sense since personality disorders tend to run in families... Add Scott into the mix, and I guess it turns out the only 'Core STP member' without a personality disorder is Kretz so far as we know.

These incidents between the brothers, or between them and Richard Patrick, don't bother me as much since as Brett mentioned all parties seem to have no longs standing issues about it... But when you have a 200lb man choking out a 110lb woman, that bothers me. At this point, I honestly really believe he's hurt her in the past and I hope she keeps him out of her life. As for Dean himself, I just hope he gets help.

But at the end of the say I'm not going to let it affect my love of the band's music. There was some fairly shady stuff going on with Zepp back in the day, and I still enjoy their music. I just am gonna keep the same mindset with STP I guess.

I loved meeting Robert too the couple of times I did, along with Dean and Eric. We don't really know them though, based on short positive meetings, or even based on the negative stories like this where they fought.

You really only know someone if you are in communication with or see them on a regular basis. I've probably interviewed hundreds of people (maybe 50-80 musicians among them), and the only musician I could really say I know pretty well is D'arcy Wretzky.

I’d agree with this. It’s not like Robert & Dean are going to start choking out fans at meet & greets, or each other for that matter when around fans etc but behind closed doors (or on a tour bus) and probably under the influence of drugs and or alcohol, well that’s a different story. We’ve seen glimpses of Dean’s bad attitude and controlling ways in interviews and on stage over the years so nothing regarding him surprises me anymore, I always thought Robert was the calmer brother though so hearing about him having these violent outbursts surprised me more... Then again if I was in a band with Dean I’d probably want to throttle him too so yeah maybe he triggered Robert that day?

If Robert was this violent with Dean and Richard Patrick, could you imagine what he might have done to Scott?

The band actually got sued in 1993 because Rob and Scott jumped into the audience and beat up a guy who was throwing stuff at the band,  so Rob having a temper isn't really news to anyone who follows the band.

Like I said before, the probability is both brothers are bi-polar. That means they can be calm likable guys most of the time, then violently fly off the handle when they're triggered.  This would also account for Dean being calm when Rob attacks him, and vice versa.

The bi-polar speculation here is bizarre.

The bi-polar speculation here is bizarre.

How so? Jenn claims Dean was diagnosed bi-polar, bi-polar disorder tends to run in families, and we're discussing incidents of two brothers having violent mood swings triggered by insignificant events.

How is it bizarre to speculate that the condition Dean's wife says causes him to fly off the handle is the same condition that causes his brother to fly off the handle?

Something I just read in an old Weiland interview from 1998

“You don’t know if Robert and Dean are going to hit each other in the head with their guitars, or if both of them will hit me over the head. You don’t know if I’m going to be found dead in a hotel room, you know? You don’t know if one of us is going to be arrested for murder. You don’t know. STP is combustible. And that’s what’s attractive about it.”  https://www.altpress.com/features/scott_weiland_1998_ap_cover/

Seems like the band (and the brothers) were pretty volatile even back then.

Lazy divey, nice find! I read that quote the same way. It really does give the idea maybe they were always on edge so to speak.

But as another post mentioned, in interviews it never really had a vibe that things got like that. It really did seem like it was one for all and all for one, usually. Thats what I also found appealing about these guys. They could kiss each other just because... it always felt like, “fuck everyone else and their macho shit, we’ll do things like this because we can”

That’s what I liked. This uncovering of the tension is a twist on things.

I doubt anybody who's ever been in a serious band will be particularly surprised by the stories. Some of the behaviour does seem very extreme, but it's tough being that close to the same people day in day out, creating with them, travelling with them and socialising with them.

Can't say I've ever witnessed behaviour quite as violent as some of what is described, they do seem like nutters, but there are a lot of arguments. Now add in that two of them are brothers, and jeez, that is a recipe for tension.

I watched a video on YouTube where the singer and guitarist (I think) from Lamb of God get into a drunken argument on their tourbus, they then decide to ‘take it outside’ for a fist fight. The guitarist ends up knocking the singer out and punching his unconscious face into the pavement before being pulled off. That was actually filmed and released. That’s the worst band conflict I’ve seen but you’re right, these guys are around each other day in day out so it’s only natural they’re gonna have arguments and get pissed off with each other. Then as I said earlier, when alcohol and drugs are thrown into the mix it’s like fuel on the fire.
