Stone Temple Pilots vs Scott Weiland court case discussion topic

I think this is a new interview:

"Parachute" was a great example of a beautiful Scott Weiland melody. How do you know when you've found the perfect melody for a song?
Well, first of all some melodies come right away while you're sussing out the song. And some melodies I have to sit with the song a little bit and think about what fits the best. Usually you know when you lock onto something and you just get that feeling that you're in the right direction and on course with that and you continue. When you feel that feeling of being inspired, you kinda know you're on the right path.

"You've described the music on the album as being both retro and modern. How did you achieve that?"

"Yeah, it's like retro modern."

I love this guy.
When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

"Talking about old fans and new fans, what are your feelings about Chester Bennington replacing you in STP?"

"Umm, I really don't think about it that much. It's like our legal suits we had going are way behind us now. They're doing what they're doing and I'm doing what I'm doing and I wish them luck. "

So does that mean all the legalities are over?

A hypothetical question...

Let's say "Blaster" and CheSTP-album does about as well as HIG and AoA did sales wise and tour support. Do both parties immediately consider getting back together? Or would they most likely need that to happen for two full album cycles before entertaining the thought.

I'd think that due to LP's fan base, CheSTP has a better chance of striking than the bros did with Richard Patrick but then again, sales are already slumpish in this musical climate to begin with. And unless the record takes off, I don't see STP headlining festivals or radio shows, something that they would most likely do with Scott fronting.

With everyone (especially Dean) taking shots at Scott over the years, it's always been impressive to see Scott being the bigger man.

I'd still love to know the specifics of the STP lawsuit (although, it could involve a confidentiality agreement).

For whatever it's worth, I heard from a certain member of Scott's camp at the troubadour that it was being settled and Scott was going to get money out of it. It was settled when his Twitter handle changed. Also, this is just something I heard. I Have no problem with alternativenation.net but I have noticed that they take posts
From people on here make them into story's on their site and I don't think that kind of reporting would be responsibe as this information could be false.

If either album sold almost 100,000 copies like AoA has, I'd say they would actually be pretty pleased with that.

Blaster won't sell that sort of amount, HiG barely scraped the top 100 and since 90s rock stars are invariably trending downwards it's a safe bet Blaster won't fare too much better. CheSTP probably will sell that much total just because it will say STP on the cover, but not a lot more.  100,000 copies is pretty good going for a rock band these days, the new Live album hasn't even shifted 10,000!

I don't think any of these guys are particularly concerned with album sales. They know what this is.

For Scott it's a means to an end so he can tour, plus I'm sure he gets a little something out of putting music to tape every few years. For CheSTP, Chester gets to collaborate with some of his idols and the Deleos and Kretz get to record and tour with one of the most relevant names in rock. Neither album will do particularly well on the charts, but I don't think anyone involved really cares.

Gotcha. So in your estimation, it's pretty safe to say that the lack of “success” won’t necessarily bring Scott & the boys back together?

I personally think we should never say never when it comes to Weiland reuniting with STP.  I think eventually the money will dictate whether they reunite or not.  It always does for almost every single band.  No matter the bad blood.
