It'll be interesting to see if this shapes how they'll release music, as obviously physical EP releases make them no money.

It'll be interesting to see how/if this changes their stance on the decision to move on without Scott.
I don't doubt that they give a full album/tour a whirl with Chester. But I wonder if a full length sells poorly as well, would that reopen the door for a reconciliation with Scott?
Or will it be this lineup going forward, no matter what?
STP: 07.31.00 | 08.04.01 | 10.24.01 | 04.23.02 | 10.11.02 | 05.31.08 | 09.05.10
SW: 11.30.11 | 03.12.13 | 08.29.14 | 03.10.15
VR: 05.28.04 | 05.18.07 || AoA: 02.01.07
CheSTP: 09.06.13 | 04.25.15 | 09.20.15 || JeffTP: 07.28.18 | 09.15.19

STP needed/s a massive hit to legitimize this version of the band. That's what it really comes down to. Out of Time gets lots of play, but it's not a massive hit. Unfortunately, this change has occurred way past STP's popularity, so unless something changes, Chester's version of the band will not have the same legitimacy as Scott's version.

The reason it worked with Van Halen was 1) VH were at the height of their popularity, and 2) they followed up the first single off of 1984, Jump, which hit #1 on the rock charts and the Hot 100, with Why Can't This Be Love, which hit #1 on the rock charts and #3 on the Hot 100.

To put it more directly, they followed up their biggest hit ever (still) with their 2nd-biggest hit ever (still). So the reason there is a Sammy/Dave argument is that they had hits with both singers.

So in order to sell, they need a hit at least as big as Sour Girl.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but High Rise is listed on the Billboard charts. Their site is weird to navigate. Searching for the album or band didn't yield its chart positions; I had to click on each chart to find it, so it might be in other places too, but here's what I found:

Alternative Albums - #10
Hard Rock Albums - #4
Independent Albums - #6
Top Rock Albums - #11

...and this, folks, is why you do not smoke crack.

Okay, so no crack smoked . The site actually says that. It's gotta be a Wikipedia mistake.

It's very much true actually, I remember seeing it when I was on holiday in the States, but it was called Buy This officially at the time. I don't know why it is called "A Taste Of" on Wiki, that's not written on the cover..

It was just some crappy sampler they threw out without any promotion or anything like that. It's a miracle it charted at all. It had ridiculous things written on it like "Buy This!!" "Jump, No, Don't!"

Absolute piece of crap. Somebody was definitely smoking crack when they came up with that one.

The 'tast of' (aka 'buy this') was I believe just a Best Buy exclusive from a few years back.  It was originally priced at $5 or $6 and of course it didn't sell much.  In order to get rid of these, they slashed the price to $.49 which caused it to briefly chart for a week.  Defintely not the same situation as the High Rise EP, which contained all new material.
