Honest opinion... He's trying too hard to sound like Scott

Ooo, I did not like Piece of Pie. It was bad. Pop Love Suicide was alright.

He sounds too whiney.

I'm trying to keep an open mind. I am soooo happy to see and hear Kretz/DLeos.

I hope Chester doesn't use the megaphone. If he does, then he'll be trying to be Scott instead of just being himself.  The megaphone is a Weiland thing, not an STP/VR thing.

Is there really any other way to sing these old songs though? Is he supposed to sing them in a vastly different style or key just to be as far away from Scott as possible? The songs were written to be performed this way, why disrespect the original track by trying to remix them live into something completely different just to distance himself from Weiland? The fans who are there at the new shows are coming to see the classics performed the way they remember them, just with a different vocalist. Even William from AIC tries to mimic Layne live a little to honor the old legacy of AIC and Layne's vocal contributions to the band. All Chester is doing is showing respect to the old music by not completely changing the sound.

I feel Chester can't win here. If he "Chester-rizes" these songs, and makes them sound like Linkin Park versions of STP tracks, people will criticize him for not respecting the original songs and trying to turn STP into Linkin Park Version 2.0. If he sings the songs the way they were written, and tries to match Scott's key and vocal style out of respect, he's accused of trying too hard to be a Weiland wannabe.

Church on Tuesday brothers and sisters...........................

O_O
Look I just want to go out sometime you know.  Like normal people, spend time together and enjoy each other's company. Like best friends.  Like lovers that care.  Who actually respect the relationship you know?"

Piece of Pie didn't sound too great - I mean even Scott has trouble singing those songs nowadays, but Chester's voice isn't well suited for Core songs. Pop's Love Suicide sounded decent, but he needs that raspy anger in his voice!! ;D  Church on Tuesday was kind of sloppy, but I'll give them a pass on it. The one song I felt Chester made seem like his own was Trippin, surprisingly. I really enjoyed that performance. I think if he wants to sound good he should stick to the later STP catalog.
STP Shows: 05-25-08 - Wallingford, CT, 09-23-12 - Sacramento, CA
SWB Shows: 03-07-13 - Boston, MA, 06-07-13 - San Francisco, CA

This just sounds like American Idol singing. No emotion or soul behind those words at all. I only liked Pop's, that was it.
If you only knew..

I feel offended after watching those performances.
No heart, soul, or anything from Chester.
Just a cheap imitation of a 2011 Scott Weiland
Man they are going to get ripped a new asshole by the fans when they start touring.

I don't care what anybody says, I've seen STP with Chester twice now live and they sound great.  Dean especially feels more alive than he did in 2011-2012.  The choice of songs was fantastic as well.  I know there's the crowd that will never support the new lineup but I think many will be won over with this tour and as better quality videos come out along with new material.

STP Shows: 5/1/08, 6/24/08, 12/31/08, 7/1/09, 5/25/10, 6/5/10, 10/29/10, 9/22/12, 5/30/13, 9/1/13
Velvet Revolver Shows: 7/22/06, 9/15/07
Scott Weiland Shows: 12/14/08, 12/8/11

Congratulations, man - sounds like an amazing once in a lifetime experience and a nice write-up!  Thanks for sharing.  Pop's Love Suicide - one of my favorite STP tracks ever, never thought I'd hear it live again, and it sounded great!

If I had to pick a side in this whole thing, I'm definitely "Team Weiland," but I don't get what all the hate is about.  Chester sounds great, and they are definitely showing that they will do some deep cuts on this tour.  If anything, I view this more as a side project along the lines of Talk Show and AoA.  I'd rather they change the name also, but they are STP "WITH" CB so why not just embrace it and enjoy the new music instead of getting fired up about semantics?

I've seen both Talk Show and AoA live, with STP covers played both times, and how else is the singer supposed to sing it?  There's no way it's not going to sound somewhat like Weiland because of his signature style and melody composition.  Dave Coutts and Richard Patrick didn't do any better or worse of a job and neither got the same sort of criticism.  Just like Weiland sounding Axl-y when VR covered GNR, there's no way around it, especially with the same band playing the instruments as opposed to a different band ala the Wildabouts

Chester's voice in general sounds whiny. I'm not a fan of LP even if Chester was not in LP and I don't like his voice.

STP has the name but it sounds like TS or AoA. The band is awesome as aways, but the voice, ish. Someone was talking about no heart in it, I agree.

We'll see what STP fans say about the shows and the "better quality" videos.
