Big Bang Baby
« on: August 06, 2013, 09:21:50 PM »
Why has this tune not sustained the same success as other STP hits over the course of time? The band itself hardly plays it compared to their other greatest hits and radio is pretty much the same. It is certainly catchy and definitely belongs both in their setlist and on radio. The tune didn't reach #1 by accident. Maybe I'm wrong, but I listen to a lot of radio markets thanks to the internet and they all seem to play Big Empty, Vasoline, Interstate Love Song, Crackerman, Creep, Wicked Garden, Plush, and Trippin. Now that I think about it, why doesn't Down, Sour Girl, or even Lady Picture Show get much airtime? It makes little sense to me.

From what i recall, scott wasn't able to hit the vocals on it. They tuned it down quite a few steps and it still sounded like shit.

Yeah, but that still doesn't explain radio. I assumed that would most likely be the answer to why they didn't play it live.

For me, it's just not that great a song.

It's simple.  Big Bang Baby is nowhere to be found on Core or Purple.

Yeah, I guess Trippin is the exception to being a "non-Core/Purple" tune that has stayed in the set and on radio.
