TMZ: Stone Temple Pilots sues Scott Weiland
« on: May 25, 2013, 12:58:00 AM »
Stone Temple Pilots claims Scott Weiland screwed the band out of millions of dollars and now it's looking forward to a very important date -- in court.

The band claims Weiland sabotaged it's 20th anniversary tour by being chronically late for performances and missing promotional gigs.  The band also claims in the lawsuit Weiland had a plan to seize all the glory, to the point he wouldn't even communicate with band members.  They say Weiland's plan was simple -- "hijack" the tour.

The band had actually fired Weiland in February and hired the lead singer of Linkin Park to replace him, but they claim Weiland got vindictive and tried to interfere with the release of its new single.

Stone Temple Pilots is asking for unspecified damages.

I can't believe it's come to this. This is only going to get uglier and uglier. This makes me so sad. If they have to go their separate ways I was hoping for the high road, but obviously at this point the gloves are completely off. The only possible explanation for Scott's silence is that the lawyers have put a big time gag order on him.

At this point I don't even care who did what to who, this is just plain pathetic. I don't even have the words to explain how disappointing and embaressing this is.

I gotta admit, I feel a little sorry for Weiland right now.
I just thought together we'd stand, but now I'm looking for your hand...where are you? 'Cause all four walls are comin' down tonight...

Wow who the hell knew things had gotten this bad? I mean they were literally just playing shows together last year.

Stone Temple Pilots sue ex-frontman Scott Weiland
Updated: Friday, 24 May 2013, 8:20 PM EDT
Published : Friday, 24 May 2013, 8:00 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Stone Temple Pilots accuse former frontman Scott Weiland of misusing the band's name to further his solo career and want a judge to strip the rocker of his ability to use the group's name or songs.

A lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles accuses Weiland of being chronically late to concerts while the group was together and having his lawyer try to interfere with the airplay of the group's new single "Out of Time."

Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots parted ways in February, and the singer said at the time that he learned of his ouster from a statement released to the media.

The lawsuit claims the band owns the rights to the name Stone Temple Pilots, its songs, copyrights and trademarks. Wieland has used many of the band's hits in his solo shows, the lawsuit states. The band wants a judge to block him from even calling himself a former member of the band.

The band has been reconstituted with Chester Bennington of Linkin Park taking the frontman role.

The lawsuit claims that Weiland's lawyer called the head of programming at KROQ, a Los Angeles modern rock station, and said if the station played "Out of Time" it would be infringing on Weiland's rights.

"Enough is enough," the band's lawsuit states. "Without relief from the court, Weiland will continue violating STP's rights, misappropriating STP assets and interfering with the band's livelihood."

Phone messages left for Wieland's manager Andrea Pett-Joseph and lawyer Gary Stiffelman were not immediately returned Friday.

The 45-year-old alluded to lawyers getting involved when the band's statement about his departure was released.

The band's hits include "Vasoline," ''Interstate Love Song" and "Plush," which won a Grammy in 1993 for best hard rock performance with vocal.

I don't. The full story will come out in time. The idea that the Deleos & Kretz are nasty & vindictive is simply ridiculous imo. Something happened.

This is what I don't get.  $TThree says the Weiland tried to interfere with the release of their single.

But in the Weenie Roast interview, when K & B asked the Bros if Weiland knew about their performance, they said "He does now". Major changes to the site was during the Weenie Roast performance and the single was out, what that night or the next day.

Even Chester said everything they were doing was on the DL.

So WHEN would Weiland try  to interfere?

Weiland isn't the only bad guy in STP. The DeLeos, especially Robert, are bad.

Damnit all. Not sure if there is any coming back from that. I'm just gonna go drink until it's 1996 again.

There never was. I think some people thought this was another attempt at "tough love".

Oh I've accepted it and love the new song. But damn, this whole thing is a clusterfuck now. But hey, people are talking STP again.  And I feel there is more anticipation now than during the reunion tour.
