So I got Alive In The Windy City
« on: August 18, 2012, 09:15:42 PM »
And it is AMAZING! I know some of Scott's vocals were edited, but it's still an awesome show.
I don't know why so many people were shitting on it.
I just thought together we'd stand, but now I'm looking for your hand...where are you? 'Cause all four walls are comin' down tonight...

I know that this is an ancient thread, but I finally got a blu ray copy of this - I've had it digitally for years, but I wanted the hard copy for my collection. It cracks me up that this thing was encoded for 1080i and not 1080p...

I've got the blu ray too. I think its a great concert overall, I particularly enjoy the live version of 'Plush' from this show :-)
How heavily edited exactly were Scott's vocals? I mean its not like he sounds PERFECT throughout, he sounds good but not to he point where it sounds like its been tweaked.
Nothing matters again, I didn\'t think we\'d last that long

I think Scott had to re-record the vocals. I remember there was a bootleg of the Chicago show out there, Scott sounded nothing like he does on the release.

There's barely an original note of Hollywood Bitch left. I don't think Scott rerecorded anything, they just pieced it together from other performances with the help of autotune. It's painfully badly done on that song, but the rest of the gig is pretty well done.

The final product is a decent one, but by comparison to the original webcast it is clear they did a lot of work on Scott's vocals.

Yeah, we know that it's standard practice for the most part on live releases, but when the doctoring is as obvious as it is here, I think it's just a sign of a poor job on the editing.

It's not just the obviousness, but the sheer volume of edits a well. I don't think there's a single song without an edit, where as a common live album would usually only have a few edits here and there.

There's the over the too reverb on his voice, there's obvious pitch correction, and then all the overdubs where Scott's voice doesn't match his lips.

I thought the New York show that was webstreamed was a much better representation of the band. There were some edits, but it wasn't nearly as hamfisted.
Grab the hate and drown it out...

Remember the Family Values CD with Wicked Garden and how they blatantly slowed it down and added the studio recording's vocals underneath the live vocals?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsKAF8HSRHM

Oh man, I had never heard that before. That's just shameful.

there wasn't really much of a need to edit his vocals from then, they weren't spot on at times, but that was because he was going insane on stage. even at the worst parts they weren't that bad at all.

The album vocals meshed in with Scott's vocals from the show, but the Core vocals clearly overpower the live vocals. I think it sounds kinda cool though

I believe I remember reading that it was Doug who edited that show for them.

To blatantly hear an edit, listen to the first chorus of Big Empty and the third time he says "time to take" on the proshot compared to a fan recording https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1malRDjwgI

Holy crap, I don't even remember making this thread!

Yeah, from what I can hear, and based on the videos I've seen, there's a lot of editing done. He's been getting more and more autotuned in releases ever since Self-Titled.  :-\

Jesus. I've been holding this performance within my head as the best live STP ever.
But what about Vasoline? That's not the studio  recording's vocal. it's, to me, even better than the studio's.
