Tonight was my 6th time seeing STP and it was easily the best show I've seen. they played the same standard setlist they've been playing this tour. I managed to grab the rail between Scott and Dean, so I got some great pics that I'll post in a few days. And to top the night off I managed to catch Deans slide during interstate love song!!!
Hey, jbigmaki, I was the third person on your right (I saw you catch Dean’s slide). I think your girlfriend/wife/friend (a blonde with glasses) may have held my friend’s spot when she went to the bathroom! Anyway, I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of this show. Outstanding. In fact, of all the shows I saw in these last two years (six in 2011 and two in 2012), I think this was my favorite.
The band came out at exactly 9:30. Scott seemed really happy. He was very talkative during the show, and he was completely coherent. I do hope he buys himself a new pair of pants that fit, though. He looked thin—not in a bad way—but his pants were so baggy they were practically falling off him. During the first two songs, he was visibly struggling with them. Finally, he said he wanted to apologize for his “belt issues.” And it wasn’t the leopard belt, either.
The venue was a small nightclub, but it was pretty full. I arrived at 6:00, when the doors opened, and there was only a small line, so I easily got a spot on the rail in front of Dean. As I mentioned to Shapy earlier, I continue to be so frustrated by the lack of promotion for this band. The girl standing next to me was a huge fan. She told me she had no idea STP was in town until earlier that day, when she happened to be driving by the venue and saw the sign. She immediately ran in to see if she could get a ticket. Well, everyone here knows what I’m talking about—we’re constantly seeking information about tour dates, etc., and it is STILL so hard to figure out what’s going on. It’s such a shame to think what could’ve been, and maybe what could still be, for this magnificent band.
Robert pointed to someone in the crowd and mentioned something about Rick Nielsen and Cheap Trick, but I couldn’t make out exactly what he said. I’m still jealous of you Chicago peeps who got to witness that the other night.
Right before Crackerman, Scott said: “Hey, who has seen one of my shows before?” Haha…so they’re HIS shows? Probably just a slip.
Well, youtube critics—have at it. But I was there, and I can tell you that I thought Scott sounded amazing.
Unless they add some more dates (unlikely at this point), this was the last 2012 show for me. Great way to end it on such a high note, though.
