I see them putting the new album off to the side and just playing a handfull of shows for the Core tour. They all need to take a break anyway. If they worry about the Core re-issue and a new album in the same year, they both will be half-assed. I'd rather them focus on just one project at a time.
If they play their cards right, a re-issue of Core could prove to be very lucrative. It's their most popular album and was one of the most sold of all the albums of the '90s. A well-structured tour and adequate promoting would really inject some life into STP and lead to some renewed interest from many fans for a new album. And if they really want to reel in some new fans, they would release "Only Dying" as their first single off the new album or a new heavier track (Scott still has the baritone to pull this off in the studio, it's the higher notes he's having problems with).
As I was typing this, I figured out just how unlikely this all is.
