Talk is talk. As exciting as it sounds, I will believe it when I see it.

Plus, as evident from recent performances, Scott needs to REST.

Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

Plus, working on a new album doesn't mean we're getting a new album anytime soon.
It took a while for Stone Temple Pilots to finally get finished, IIRC (same for Happy In Galoshes).

hmm maybe I woke up a bit sceptic today. It says nothing to me. The information was taken from RS's article, and there was no mention about a new record in that interview.

However, a 2012 release sounds impossible.

Im very excited for the next record self titled was beyond amazing! u guys heard scott he said he expects the band to start working on riffs already. it would be awsome to have this record in the summer just like the last record. it would be exactly 2 years apart and thats cool that stp is playin special shows for core but to be honest id much rather hear new material live. i wish they would rock more songs from self titled id kill to hear that album live.

I hope they keep songs from the Self titled in the set list. In fact add more songs to the set list after this album comes out  I thought self titled was amazing and it would be a shame to ignore that album after this album comes out

Im sure in either jan or feb were gonna hear some interviews with the guys about the new album. My only fear that i hope does not happen is i hope they dont just play core shows all thru 2012. I hope they focus more on the new record. I also wonder if after this album will they drop atlantic? and will stp keep producing their own albums? I personally thought they did great on self titled i always have faith in the deleos they can do anything.

I see them putting the new album off to the side and just playing a handfull of shows for the Core tour.  They all need to take a break anyway.  If they worry about the Core re-issue and a new album in the same year, they both will be half-assed.  I'd rather them focus on just one project at a time.

If they play their cards right, a re-issue of Core could prove to be very lucrative.  It's their most popular album and was one of the most sold of all the albums of the '90s.  A well-structured tour and adequate promoting would really inject some life into STP and lead to some renewed interest from many fans for a new album.  And if they really want to reel in some new fans, they would release "Only Dying" as their first single off the new album or a new heavier track (Scott still has the baritone to pull this off in the studio, it's the higher notes he's having problems with).

As I was typing this, I figured out just how unlikely this all is.   :(

Maybe I am being too optimisitc, but I believe they (everybody but Scott) will start working on the album this month. After they get some stuff recorded, however long that may take, they will send it to Scott... then the process will continue.
