Contraband Album Discussion

Contraband is great, but the production sucks SO bad.  It's a shame really.  I never 'got' Do It For The Kids, though.  It was a live staple, and some seemed to love it.  I think it's one of the worst songs Weiland has ever done.  Loving The Alien Sometimes, however, THAT is an under-appreciated song...

Not that you asked, but Libertad is great too - but for me that includes a burnt disc that includes Messages and Psycho Killer along with the album proper.  Libertad is just so much better with those 2 songs mixed in there. 

I really enjoyed Do It For the Kids, I like the little bluesy/spanish thing going on in that one, but its definitely a different song, and I can see why some dont like it.  I absolutely do agree that the production is so bad on Contraband.  Also, Loving the Alien, Sometimes is a GEM.

I love Do it for the Kids and it is awesome when it was performed live as well.  One of the best live VR songs, if not the best to see.

do it for the kids is alright but i do majorly enjoy loving the alien. probably my favorite off the album.

I liked both albums equally well, and more than a couple of STP's albums (heresy!!!!!!!) 

I tend to like the harder material of both bands.

For me, only "Slither" & "Superhuman" are up there at STP standard.

I like aspects of some other songs, particularly on the 2nd half of the album but, as a whole, it's too flashy and lacking in substance for me...and I agree the production is poor. Of all the STP and side-project recordings, Contraband is the only one that just looks out of place in the CD rack. It just doesn't belong with the others...it kinda annoys me, tbh!

Good music is good music.  I'd definitely take Libertad over No.4., but thats prob about it.

listened the album recently after a long absence and enjoyed it alot, just a real rockin album with quite a few solid tracks, You Got No Right is still my fav and one of their best

Precisely, I mean the standard of quality that we've grown to expect from STP members. For me, Contraband doesn't have it - just my opinion.
