I don't see how Spin dissed STP here... unless, they were trying to diss U2 while indirectly (and possibly implicitly) dissing STP.  in that case, that's some complicated dissing.

I flipped through it in the library. They were seriously dissing VR and "Slither." Billie Joe Armstrong said something along the lines of there being "too much middle-aged man flesh" in VR, which sorta got a chuckle from me. But really, he's not that far in age from Scott.
