Yeah, Scott's voice was slightly better in 1994 than around 2000. However, I feel like this is when they were the most entertaining! You wanted better, here you go.

That particular video may be stellar (very stellar), but the 94 tour WAS cut short (Scott + Coke = Trouble) - for that reason, I have to stick by my original statement. There were lots of folks who, just like in 96, had their STP dreams cut short. Out of curiosity, were you one of the lucky ones that caught them before the bad news started? If so, I am quite jealous. :)
How could they not notice it?! Because it's a little mint.  It's a Junior Mint!

These are great sounding clips but I just like Scott's voice better back in 94.  Personal opinion.  I swear Kretz beat the skins louder and fiercer back in this era as well.  The Deleos always sound great.  Not a huge difference between the clips you have here and the clips from 94 i've seen, but I still say 94 is their prime.

What exactly happened that cut the tour short that year?  I don't think I've ever read about that.  To answer your question about seeing them back in the day..unfortunately not, I was only 10 at the time :(.  I've only seen them several times in the last couple of years since the reunion.  All I have to go by is the youtube videos which I endlessly and obsessively scour.

I also think they were in their prime around 2000.  His voice was good, the band was tight, the drugs were working!
That Rolling Rock gig is my favourite ever!
They were rocking it in 1994 as well but like someone mentioned, Scott had discovered himself much more in the late 90s, he had became a true rock star....

I thought someone should post the full Down video from Bizarre Fest 01
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdCd972bPVE

Kretz wasn't a monster behind the kit in 99-02? Then who the hell is drumming in this clip? lol Yeah, he pounded the drums a little harder in 92-94... But it's not like he turned dainty-armed later on.

As for Scott, anyone who can sing like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzVgIop0f0Y

And this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqvSZEpKMnc

And this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDtGZs1L0Ts

And this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IrjCRmM5uQ

All in the same year is pretty damn close to their peak as a vocalist, I think. I'm a pretty big Purple fan. In fact, it's my favorite STP album if not my favorite album of all time. But I'm not going to say Scott's voice was better in 94. It was good back then, but no where near it's peak. Just listen to the KORQ Almost Acoustic X-Mas version of Kitchenware and Candybars versus the Storytellers version. Scott's voice was infinitely better in the latter IMO

I gotta say that 94 era is pretty special looking. I didn't see them until 2000 touring with palo alto and then later that year with RHCP and later again dadada...

I thought they were kickass then...shows at a level I've never seen before or after...untouchable..but maybe this other era too...Tiny was probably my favorite album, it at least has a special place for me...I always wondered what the tours would have been like following it.

I'm glad you posted these links, I hadn't listened to them in ages.
I miss the days when Scott used to be able to talk coherently like this  :)

Oh, when you see the mohawk, you know trouble is brewing.  Any drastic hair changes usually mean things aren't good.  The mohawk and the red spikes usually means drugs. The blonde greaseball and the skinhead look is usually booze.

You can almost always tell a healthy Scooter by any "normal" type of hair. :)

Hear hear and no more Mohican, it's hair rape!!

Scott had the most energy on the Core tour. He looked great, sounded great, and who can forget the whirly-bird dance (or whatever you want to call it)?

I've seen STP live four times (once in '96 and three times during the No. 4 Tour).  The 1996 show was so amazing due to the long set list (24 songs!), but nothing tops the energy and overall vibe of the the shows duirng 2000 (espcially the June 2000 Cleveland show).  Haven't made it to any of the shows since they got back together.

Scott, was the 00 show you're talking about at Tinly/Finly Park?  I can't remember which, but Mom and I flew in, rented a car, and drove to the wrong one.  If it was Tinley, we went to Finly. If it was Finly, we drove to Tinly. After realizing our mistake, we made it there seconds before showtime. So, you and I may have crossed paths years before we ever "met" on here  :)

Yes! That show was at Tinley Park, Illinois. I've gone to many shows there, and it's easily my least favorite venue. But at the time, it was closer to me then Chicago, and at the time, it was cheaper to go there too. I was in the lawn with my friends and drunk acquaintances. I assume you were in the pavillion? I met with some friends who were in the pavillion. So yeah, we may have crossed paths at one time :)
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

Personally, I think the time around 1999 to about 2001 was when STP was at their overall best. Scott was high energy most of the time, vocally still pretty good (but declining and inconsistent), and they had hit a creative peak.

But as far as live performances go, nothing since has beaten the awesome energy, attitude and vocal power of the Core era. I thought Scott was going to literally fly off the stage during the opening of Wicked Garden the first time I saw the following video:

http://www.belowempty.com/forum/index.php?topic=7399.0

If Scott could have preserved his vocal power and consistency from the Core era, if the setlists could have been a bit longer, like the Tiny Music era, then the live shows during 1999-2001 would have been unbeatable. I guess I'm torn between the Core era and the No. 4 era.
