Because the DeLeos say so much with their music in this song.  It does more than transition, it literally conveys emotion through the instruments.  Sometimes its sad, sometimes its happy, but its always beautiful.

100% agree that Robert&Dean say so much not only with this one but with a lot of STP songs.  I respect where you're coming from..

Yea, I completely agree.  Daisy just speaks to me.
Picked a song, sang a yellow nectarine.

I'll count em down 71-1. Wasn't that easy to choose song over song, but let's say if a song is over 10 positions higher than another, there's some difference in the level of love I have for it.
ps. if the criticism seems harsh sometimes, keep in mind songs are compared to other stp songs moreso than to music overall.

71. No Memory

Yeah, it's not really song-song. somewhat generic and repetitive. Could have perhaps been an intro, not deserved a whole track?

70: A Song For Sleeping

This song should only be heard by Noah.

69: Wet My Bed

just silly fun, a cool breather before the rocket takes off again.

68. MC5

It could have been called Sex Pistols or The Carpenters, but still the only thing any good is a bit of the drumming here.

67. Hazy Daze

Aside from a fairly good chorus and somewhat fun guitars, this track just doesn't do much to me. Sounds incomplete.

66: Daisy

see 71.

65. Art School Girl

Well, it's probably the ugliest vocal by S.Weiland in the chorus, but moreso I just never got ('got' doesn't always necessarily mean get the meaning, but as in get the vibe, feel something) the "I told you five or four times" part.

64. Long Way Home

Saved by a nice guitar solo. Pretty nice chorus, also has a feeling of a swan song (though I'm not sure if that's a good thing...)

63. Press Play

Cool, groovy, chill, relaxed. But since it deserved its own track, it should've been longer!

62. Pruno

I feel sorry for this little song, never getting the nurture and love it craveth. Well, just a random solid song, but since we're talkin' stp here, that means your taking these kind of positions.

61. Dumb Love

I like the aggression, wicked guitar and lyrical progression. Not too big on the vocal here though (especially the effects).

60. Coma

Just quite boring (for the most part) Gets kind of interesting when it slows down, towards the end and not a half bad, yet short solo there too.

59. Hollywood Bitch

I like the beat, groovy guitar intro, supercool chorus. The whole band delivers alright.

58. Regeneration

I like the "to the fields..." part and it has its moments but a little too repetitive.

57. Transmission From a Lonely Room

Quite a cool tune. More style over substance though. Nice background music.

56. Pop's Love Suicide

A bit underrated I think. Don't have much to say, it's just decent.

55. Church on Tuesday

Nice melodies, but feels a little pointless.

54. No Way Out

A bit too "let's be nu-metal". Somewhat generic lyrics too, but the aggression and sheer energy is great.

53. Sex & Violence

Pure crazy. The band's firing on all cylinders, maybe not my fave style of stp song though.

52. Heaven & Hotrods

Just a solid STP song. Cool, groovy aggressive, defines stp sound at the turn of the century.

51. Peacoat

This one has a gorgeous chorus, but otherwise falls into the unfortunate catgory of Scott vs. the band. sounds too chopped up.

50. Black Again

Good song to just put on in the background. Flows nicely.

49. Take a Load Off

I just like the structure, chorus and lyrics.

48. I Got You

No matter what the genre in rock, these boys can pull it off.

47. Naked Sunday

Kretzel having fun here. a bit generic lyrics  and not exactly my fave, but great for what it is. Scott can pull off a chorus with just aahs and ooohs.

46. Too Cool Queenie

I like it for the lyrics, cool solo too.

45. Down

Never the biggest fan of this song, but definitely a punchy "we're back" feeling. No tricks.

44. Between the Lines

Energetic yet generic. Crazy lyrics and a brilliant chorus.

43. Maver

Nice sing-along, maybe too standard pop though?

42. Hickory Dichotomy

Very catchy, very fun = STP in 2010.

41. Bagman

So bad it's great. Seriously, that outro is incredible!!

40. Sin

I love the gloomy, brooding atmosphere here. The breakdown is fantastic and I love Dean's solo.

39. Glide

Another that's not my fave by any means, but just so well performed and written that it's a shame the guys never get the credit they deserve.

38. Cinnamon

Well, it's catchy. Clever guitar riff, but the vocals are just way too effect-laden and the chorus could have been something else than just "come on, yeah".

37. And So I Know

I could listen to Dean's solo all day.

36. Crackerman

Just a fun, crazy song lightens up the mood well on Core.

35. Meat Plow

A little too generic but nevertheless classic STP.

34. Where the River Goes

When the Levee Breaks, anyone? Just epic, I love the lyrics the heavy riffs and general "youthfulness" here.

33. Wonderful

"you're the wonder in everything, that's wonder-ful" - brilliant! Just a perfect pop song.

32. First Kiss On Mars

Just love the summer-y feeling here. Just perfect for what it is.

31. Adhesive

You really gotta be in the right mood for this one. I love how it shifts from really slow to exploding bridge + chorus.

30. Dare If You Dare

This one's growing on me. Yeah, maybe a bit too Lennon-esque, but it's just damn well written.

29. Dead & Bloated

Can you argue with an intro like that? A bit too repetitive from being flawless though.

28. Kitchenware & Candy Bars

I love how the song builds up (that riff) and Weiland gives some brilliant vocals. The strings are a nice addition too.

27. Huckleberry Crumble

Great reminder that STP still has their harder side. Pure, raw, dirty rock n roll music.

26. Piece of Pie

Just love the groove, explosive intro and the sheer brilliance of early day Weiland.

25. Unglued

Simplistic but effective.

24. Fast As I Can

This one's just so badass. Love the way it in your face and Scott delivers! Wish they'd play it live.

23. Days of the Week

Just simple, but so incredibly good. These guys just have that something. But I do have to lift a hat to Brendan O'Brien too!

22. Bi-Polar Bear

By ANY standards a effin brilliant song! Especially the chorus, but it just stays perfectly dreamy and psychedelic throughout.

21. Creep

Gotta admit, Stp didn't always sound so original, but any other band can make a song like this sound pretentious or cold, but this is just sheer serious business.

20. Pretty Penny

Simple, yet psychedelic to some degree. Incredible chorus. Love it!

19. Ride The Cliché

Totally overlooked gem. I don't get why Scott doesn't like it.

18. Hello It's Late

Perfect, laid-back pop song. Amazing lyrics and vocals.

17. Tumble In The Rough

Uber-cool lyrics/vocals, raw guitar. perfect

16. Sex Type Thing

Stands the test of time. Awesome riff and vocal.

15. Sour Girl

Easy to relate to, dreamy, catchy as hell. Just another brilliant song.

14. Big Bang Baby

The magic really is in the riff, it doesn't let you go. Love the harmonic "nothing's for free" part. What can you say, classic stp stuff.

13. Still Remains

One of the first more psychedelic stp songs. Love the warmth and melody.

12. Seven Caged Tigers

Don't know what the hell this song is about, but it sure is awesome!

11. Vasoline

Like "...Tigers", I can't put my my finger on 'why' it is so great, just is...

10. Army Ants

Guess it affects me, that the Worchester, MA '94 performance is so killer of this song, but it has great vocal melodies and Scott just sounds so confident and like he's on a mission. Dean absolutely destroys with the solo!

9. Lounge Fly

Love it cause it's such an odd song. Perfecly dark psychedelia, great epic guitar work, honest lyrics.

8. Silvergun Superman

They just don't make em like this anymore...

7. Atlanta

Astonishing song! nuff said

6. Trippin' On a Hole In a Paper Heart

Well, can't find anything about this song short of perfect!

5. Big Empty

Again, a song that in the wrong hands could sound very generic. I can't see soft/loud dynamics better in any of their other songs.

4. Lady Picture Show

the bass, the guitar, vocals and drums

3. Wicked Garden

Sheer ownage. Such a mint mix of psychedelia and heavy rock. Catchy melodies, great drum fills. I can't see myself ever stop loving this song

2. Plush

Like Wicked Garden, but even more direct and in yer face. Epic vocals and riffs, I think just maybe stp would have made more songs alike Plush, had they not been so tortured by media.

1. Interstate Love Song

Well, I couldn't praise it enough go listen!

That is INSANE how you guys just rattled that off like nothing. I have a hard time putting together a top ten, yet alone ranking ALL of their songs. Props to you guys. However, when I do find time, I will do it. I have a spreadsheet ranking the first five albums. I figure I can take the first five tracks, rank them, take the second set, etc. THEN, I have to add the new album too. All I can tell you is that Lounge Fly is definitely number one, and Pruno is by far number 71.

Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

I am not going to rank all 1 through 71, because I do not have the patience, but here is what I got.

1. Crackerman (Can this song get any better, they made the right choice by using this as the opener... hits you from the start and does not let up)
2. Trippin (this has to go down as one of the best songs of all time, forget just STP, all time!)
3. Interstate Love Song ( I do not care how many times I hear it, it never gets old)
4. Wicked Garden (Great from start to finish, enough said)
5. Vasoline ( Love the lyrics so much)
6. Creep (Just an outstanding song all the way around, STP need this back in the setlist)
7. Art School Girl (do not know why I love this so much, maybe because it is different)
8. BBB (again, this song just shows how brilliant STP is)
9. All in the suit that you wear (great song really brings the energy)
10. D&B ( how can anybody hate this song?)
11. K&CB ( what a transition after the first forty seconds or so)
12. No Way Out ( some say generic lyrics, I just truly honest about his state of mind at the time)
13. Plush ( this one moves up all the time on my list, but for now I outplayed the shit of it recently)
14. Big Empty (usually higer in my list as well, but now I am currently listening to mostly heavy or new STP)
15. Army Ants (way too underappreciated in my opinion)
16. Between the Lines (so catchy it hurts)
17.Days of the week (traditional STP? No, but still kicks ass)
18. H&HR (hits you and does not quit)
19. Sex and Violence (really great song, does not get enough love)
20. Meatplow ( never understood why this gets no radio time)
21. Unglued (great song, killer guitar)
* This list changes all most everyday, but for the most part these stay in...just rotate often.

STP songs I do not like at all

There's no way I could do this. I couldn't even rank a top 10.
All I know is that my #1 is Hello, it's late... it will never change
