I guess I really don't mean it but I still call him Weiland when I am talking about him to people.

I call him the Dude or maybe his Dudeness, or Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.  ;D

I call him ROCKSTAR!
 
Always used to be Weiland, but most of my friends are fans, so we all just call him Scott, usually followed a compliment about him.

I've been a fan since Core and I generally call him Scott.  If I'm talking to someone who isn't a huge fan, I call him Scott Weiland to clarify who I'm referring to.  If I'm texting or chatting online, I sometimes call him SW because it's easier to type.  When talking and joking around with other mega-fans, I usually call him Scott or Mr. Weiland.  I think referring to him as Weiland is a guy thing.  I don't recall ever referring to him as Weiland.

Actually, I never really gave this much thought before.  Interesting topic!

I love the band and I like to consider myself a true fan. In general conversation with friends, I refer to him as Weiland or Scott Weiland. On the forums here, I oftentimes refer to him as Scott, because let's face it, it's an STP forum. We can say Scott, Rob, Dean or Eric and everyone will know who we mean.

When I'm talking to my family, I say Scott. (b/c the topic comes up so often  :) )

It's almost always Scott for me, I'll occasionally call him Weiland, but only to my sister, whose also a fan.  And, to those who don't know who he is or aren't too familair with him I go with the "Scott Weiland from STP and VR," then once they are "introduced" I use Scott.

Any idea why he chose to go by just Weiland in the early days?

Just Weiland didn't seem to last too long. I believe it was still during the Core era that he started publicly going with Scott Weiland.

Has Scott ever been asked about this?
