STP at MSG
« on: June 08, 2010, 11:45:28 PM »
This is a question for those STP fans that have been around longer than I have.  Has STP ever played at Madison Square Garden?  I think that would be the coolest way for them to come back.  Imagine them selling out MSG this winter after the summer tour is over.

Very cool. I'm already planing on seeing them at PNC in NJ (hopefully will be better than the last time they played there), but I would still kill to see them in an arena like MSG.

I've always wondered why they haven't played there more over the years.  They never really played NY enough to begin with...  Plus, all their NY club shows sell out within the first few minutes, even to this day.

*thinking about it... maybe it's just cheaper to play in NJ.  But if I'm wrong, and there's another reason, I'd be interested. (Cause I hate driving to NJ, when a NY show would be much better.)

Are they playing any full arenas of this size during this tour?

It seems like they are playing in the theatre/ampitheatre level these days...

They played MSG on 11/25/96.  Local H opened and yes, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry came out to sing "Lick and a Promise" and "Sweet Emotion."  The show was also sold out.

It was my first STP concert and absolutely AMAZING.  If memory serves me correctly, they played about 25 songs (not including the Aerosmith ones).  About half way the acoustic set dropped from the ceiling.  The physical set was pretty cool.  it was the white half dome shaped set and they played video across the back.

Awesome memories.  Even my mother enjoyed it.  Hey, I was in high school and they wouldn't let me go any other way.

I would have loved to have been at that show! Amazing setlist and Steven and Joe from Aerosmith would have been insane.

They really need to bring back the mini stage and have an acoustic set in the middle like they used to do. It was so bad ass.

AGREED!  The last couple tours, they've kinda slipped the slow ballads (other than Creep & Sour Girl), this would give the excuse to throw out a couple other slow jams, or even flash some "Unplugged" versions like when they did the radio circuits with Interstate Love Song (see also MTV Unplugged reworkings).

PLUS, to beat the often debated topic of setlist length a bit more, it would give them some time to catch a breather to help them sustain a longer set.

I've seen the acoustic set a few times- the most memorable being the MSG and when they played the LA House of Blues.  I love how it cuts the show up and gives the band as well as the fan to chill for a few songs.  I think it also further shows their talents.
Hopefully one of these days they will bring it back.
