Stone Temple Pilots Returning To Top Of Billboard 200
« on: May 27, 2010, 12:07:05 AM »
From Billboard:
Next week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Stone Temple Pilots will return to tally after a long absence as its new self-titled set will be the chart's highest debut. Industry prognosticators think the album -- the band's first studio release since 2001 -- could sell in the neighborhood of 60,000 to 70,000 copies by week's end on May 30. That might be enough to enable a No. 1 debut, depending on how the current week's topper, "Glee - The Music Volume 3: Showstoppers," declines in its second week. "Showstoppers" arrived at No. 1 with 136,000 this past week.

If "Stone Temple Pilots" arrives in the top 10, it will mark the sixth top 10 for the band -- its entire output of studio albums. Only its greatest hits package "Thank You" missed the top 10 (No. 26 in 2003).

The second-highest debut might be the "Sex and the City 2" soundtrack, which may sell around 30,000 copies. With the film bowing in theaters this week, that number could grow, depending on how the movie's music resonates with consumers.

Other sets we expect to debut high on the Billboard 200 next week include Marc Anthony's "Iconos" and Widespread Panic's "Dirty Side Down."

Screw those estimates. I'm shooting for around 95,000 for the debut.
Favorite STP songs at the moment: Hazey Daze, Fast as I Can, I Got You, Pruno

That would be amazing. With the advent of music downloading and the decline of rock from mainstream music, I'm not going to let the numbers bother me.

All I know is that this album is the shit

The only bad news about that post by Billboard is the fact that "Sex and the City" is in the top list in the first place, let alone so close to STP.

Now why do you say that?

Alice In Chains had Black Gives Way to Blue debut with 126,000.
Pearl Jam had Backspacer debut with 189,000.

Both of the above were very recent as well. And you dont think after nearly a DECADE of no new material, STP wouldnt be able to get 95K?

Something is wrong in this world when the second-highest debut is the "Sex and the City 2" soundtrack, at least STP IS BACK!

I'm a big Motley Crue fan and "Saints of Los Angeles" sold 99,000 in its first week and I think it's a bad, bad album. Not to mention they hardly did any promotion for it (one performance on Letterman). STP have been on the promo circuit for a few weeks so I wouldn't surprised if it hit 90,000+.
6/4/08 - Detroit, MI - The Fillmore (Red Wings win the Cup); 7/7/09 - Lansing, MI - Common Ground Festival; 8/19/10 - Grand Rapids, MI - Deltaplex; 8/26/10 - Detroit, MI - Fox Theatre; 4/20/11 - Detroit, MI - The Fillmore; 8/18/12 - Pontiac, MI - Silverdome

If Slash sold 61,000 I'm sure STP will sell more. I just checked wikipedia and VR's contraband sold over 250,000 copies?!? If Libertad sold 92,000 and was still in the top 5... It just tell you how records don't even sell anymore :( hopefully STP can sell over 100,000 that would be neat!
If you only knew..

Meh, who cares? Album sales numbers and RIAA certifications really don't matter anymore. I'd rather have it debut at #1 and sell 10,000 copies than debut at #10 and sell 100,000 copies
My STP shows: 8/10/2008, 7/19/2009, 10/10/2009, 5/22/2010, 4/26/2011, 4/24/2015   Weiland solo: 1/29/2009, 11/29/2012, 3/13/2015    VR: 8/5/2007

I'd like it to at least reach AIC levels...If it doesn't I would be kinda disappointed   :(

The "bad news" is that it's projected to sell less than 100,000 copies
