Target DVD Interview/Old fashioned STP logo
« on: May 25, 2010, 06:03:25 PM »
1. Eric is visibly bored and doesn't say a word. Kinda funny actually. it's distracting!

2. They blur out the STP logo on the drumset in the backgrounds. I always wondered about this. They don't do that on...the VH1 special.....for example. But they do for this?

How did they ever get away with the use of that logo anyway?

On the VH1 special, during the credits, they referenced the STP Oil logo trademark.

Think there's a couple of factors that go into it:

Thinkin back to my Music Business courses back in the day I think it depends on whether the Executive Producer wants to pay the editors to spend all the time to blur out the logo, or just pay up a royalty fee to use the trademarked logo.  For the full Chicago concert it would've taken a good amount of time to blur out the logo in the hour long special.  Not to mention it would've taken away from the final product and distracted viewers atleast a little.  Plus, probably a bigger budget than whoever threw together the interview.

Plus then I think including it in the deluxe albums you probably have to settle some sort of fee for mass producing & distributing it.  Atlantic Records (and I think Universal Music was the distributor) wants as much $$ from album sales as possible to go directly to them, without having to dish out however much per album or some flat fee for using a trademarked logo.
Hold me closer.....closer.....let me go!

My STP Concertology:  6/22/01, 10/26/01, 4/21/02, 4/23/02, 5/18/08, 5/26/08, 5/31/08, 8/6/08, 8/8/08, 8/10/08, 7/17/09, 5/18/10, 9/3/10, 9/4/10, 7/25/11, 7/26/11, 9/10/11, 9/1/12, 5/6/18

Is anyone elses bonus DVD messed up?

My bonus DVD has major issues, specifically in the Interview. The lip sync is off, the band members words are cut off when the a new topic pops up, and there is a bad skipping noise throughout. Anyone experiencing similar problems?

Maybe a copyright thing one will pay in and one won't? It's all money with those people, after all.

I couldn't even FIND the Target special edition, and I drove all around Houston. I ended up getting the "standard" version, which sucks because I really wanted to hear the new version of Samba Nova. I hope someone would Please Message me an mp3 of it.

It was pretty deceiving, the deluxe edition looked exactly like the regular one, but there was a little sticker in the lower left-hand corner. You wouldn't even notice it unless you picked up the CD off the rack.

Give me a couple minutes, but expect a PM in the near future.

Ja, each Target I went to, the sales people were all like "huh?" Sorted through each one (time consuming!)...which also makes me think...there sure were a lot of copies on the shelf. Hope that's not an omen...

That's too bad. I went to Target, Walmart, and then another Target before I was able to find what I was looking for. Slim pickings, I guess. We need more CD stores!

Do you have the bonus tracks? About A Fool & You Can't Drive Me Away? How about the interview?

Nah, stuck with the barebones  version. Least I got it, though.

I grabbed mine at target yesterday. It was mixed in with the regular album version. They had it, that's all I care about

Mine played fine.  I'd try it on a different player - if the issue persists, then take it back and get another one.
