MTV: STP Returns To Continue An Underrated Career
« on: May 25, 2010, 02:50:48 AM »
On Tuesday (May 24), Stone Temple Pilots will drop their new self-titled album, which represents their comeback after nearly a decade on the rocks and the sixth of their career. The group has survived a lifetime of trouble, from attacks from critics to the substance abuse troubles of problematic frontman Scott Weiland. But they're back on track with a new album and a killer live show, and it's time to reevaluate their entire career...

Why do people always say Tiny Music is 'filled with odd Guitar tunings?' Every song in it is in standard tuning, except for maybe the slide part of Daisy...
Grab the hate and drown it out...

There were a lot of things that annoyed me about this article. The writer seems like a total amateur, whether he meant well or not.
But she'll never really be alone...as long as I'm beside her...

Thanks for posting...anything STP related is always cool to read...but man...this guy's album breakdown is horrendous...absolute crap.

SLDD - disinterested? No. 4 - a Doors album?
The Eddie Vedder comment, Unglued is Hardcore...and I love how one of Tiny Music's key tracks is Pop's Love Suicide.

Atlanta absolutely sounds like a Doors outtake, but that's really it off of that album.

I wonder if he meant to say unfocused instead of disinterested in regards to SLDD? Unfocused meaning that the album is all over the place, not in terms of song quality.
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

According to the writer, "STP's debut is brief." Yeah, 53 minutes and 37 seconds is brief. Right.

Scott's vocals are very Morrison-esque...but it stops there.

Maybe his heart is in the right place, but as a writer if your misinformed, you have no credibility. Journalism 101.

Exactly.

Misinformation is the whole reason STP is ignored by the broader audience. It would mean a lot more to me if someone wrote a positive article AND knew what they were talking about.

Also notice how he  says that this is only the second time he's listened to the albums? Seriously. That's ridiculous.

If it was the other way around...and the guy was slamming STP, we'd say: this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. So the positive spin shouldn't garner sympathy.

I don't how much of it is misinformation as opposed to just the guys opinion. Core being brief...welll depends on how you look at it. Certainly not in terms of length but there are only 12 songs. I don't get his #4 Doors reference but Atlanta is very Morrison influenced. All and all it is nice to see them getting some positive press at all.

The guy works for MTV!!!! So being misinformed shouldnt be suprising.  MTV is not about music anymore.

After this article he probably wrote a blog on how the show "16 and pregnant" will stop teenage pregnancies.

I think the album has an odd sound in general...which is one reason I love it. It's always seemed to have its own unique sound to it.

I always thought the sound Scott used in his voice and the music itself was awesome. Tiny Music has always seemed to have something special about it, in my opinion anyway.
