Regardless of what the album sales in its first week, they've only released one single so far. I think if they can choose another good radio single, they'll at least get to Gold.

Even the very biggest artists haven't figured out how to sell music in this new era. I think we are headed for a day very soon when ALL music will be free. You'll just go to a band's site and DL the thing. The acts make their money on touring.

As a web developer myself, I'm surprised that more acts aren't pushing for paid "gold club" memberships to their websites. In other words, join their sites for free and get good stuff, but if you pay $x.xx per month extra, you get special perks: private forums where the artists actually take part in threads, legit autographed items, VIP concert packages, admittance to a private fan festival, special edition books or artwork, etc. - things that can't be pirated for free like music or video. Think about a band like STP getting 10,000 people to pay $9.99/month. That's $1,200,000 a year in easy revenue. A U2 or Springsteen might get a lot more than that.

Those numbers kind of bum me out. I consider STP and AIC my 1a and 1b bands so I can't help but compare the two in regards to sales. Though I must say I had no true expectations on first week record sales, just kinda sucks but it is now the world we live in.....

Also, if STP were to release their next single and it takes off , what kind of weekly number boost could the record sales see?

I know it has been said on here but look at AIC, Check my Brain and Your Decision were both # hits but did it really help out sales?

I to thought they wouldve pushed up the next single release since BTL rose so fast upi the charts, and the release date of the album wouldve been a good time to to that .. ah well

Well....

It debuted #21 in Australia

http://aria.com.au/pages/documents/echa ... t_aria.pdf

They were even on the front of a major free city street press that goes out to about 200,000 people. But having said that - I don't think I've heard BTL anywhere yet.

Not bad for no airplay and that the band has never even been close to the land down under

i've already said here i don't really care about how many copies it sells...if it debuts at #1 that's good enough for me. however, i've noticed it's not doing as well as i thought it would on itunes. the deluxe version is currently at #9 and the regular version is down at #39. normally newly released albums on itunes do a lot better than that. a lot of reviews on itunes are negative too since so many dumbasses are bitching that it doesnt sound like core. idiots

Billboard position doesn't mean a thing to me. As long as the fans love and buy the album that is all that matters. Let's hope it's respectable, maybe top 10.

Billboard position is informed by record sales numbers. The better they do, the more likely it is we'll get another album. So basically, if we want more albums we want this one to be a success. And if it reaches the top spot and stays in the top few spots for many weeks, it's a very good sign.
The answers get harder and the truth's getting farther and farther...

Aerosmith just did it!! and everyone fell for it!  of course they weren't gonna break up! they worked the fans and the media just to keep everyone talking, gotta love them ol' rock PR moves...

I thought that too with Aerosmith. I like bands that pull that stuff though, cause it's better hearing their names in the press than Myley Cyrus and Justin Beiber... If anything I think that the art of selling an album is a dying art form along with the characters of Rock n' Roll.
AND I THINK I THINK TOO MUCH...

I definitely don't get why nobody does this.  Billy Corgan almost did something similar but abandoned the idea.  It's not even a type of deal where you have to please the masses, all the band needs to do is please the hardcore fans.
