There are a lot of songs that I think could fit either in Purple or Tiny Music...I get vibes from both all over the places. Sometimes both in the same song.

My opinion: (With "Ish's" because none of these songs fit flawlessly with past work. They each have something that separates them and gives them their own identity)

Peacoat: Purple-ish
Take a Load Off: Purple-ish
Hazey Daze: Purple-ish
Fast as I can: Mix of Purple and Tiny Music? Its got the fast pace that some songs on Tiny Music had but has the crunch and meaty sound some Purple songs did.
Dare if you Dare: Tiny Music-ish

Songs that I don't think resemble past work

First Kiss on Mars: MAYBE a bit of Shangri, but honestly its something i havent heard really from STP before. Totally new and awesome.

Maver: Another awesome ballad which like FKOM, sort of has a tiny Shangri-vibe to it, but in reality has no resemblence to any previous STP stuff.

And of course, I'm open to any criticism or input ;) I'd love to hear what albums you guys think these clips resemble. :)
Favorite STP songs at the moment: Hazey Daze, Fast as I Can, I Got You, Pruno

What tune does Dare If You Dare resemble? It is haunting me...definately a Beatles vibe from that.

I think that would be "All the Young Dudes" written by Mr. Bowie and popularized by Mott the Hoople.

Also could be a bit of 'Hey Jude' you're hearing.

Agree on all but "Take a Load Off."  Sounds Shangri-La to me in the verse...specifically like Transmissions from a Lonely Room.

Amazing.

Peacoat sounds very Purple indeed.  I love it!

The other thing I noticed is how Bagman really fits the vibe of the rest of the album.  In context, Bagman sounds very complimentary to the other tracks.

Oh, also love Dare if you Dare.

Thanks for posting!!!

for anyone who has heard the record, do the clips do it any justice?

The samples that were posted on mediafire are a good representation of the album's songs.

Wait, I'd say "Dare If You Dare" sounds like the chorus of "Carry That Weight" by the Beatles, but I still think there's a KISS song that I think it resembles. It's gonna kill me.

Being quite honest here, I'm not really feeling it for most of the songs, sans Fast As I Can and Dare if You Dare. But its still only 30 second clips... for anyone who has heard the record, do the clips do it any justice?

It's just seems like its not nearly as edgy as anything STP has put out before. It's also kinda bugging me that Scott's voice sounds countryish on most of the songs. I hope this isn't because of country dominating the charts today. I remember Scott saying once a few years back:

"It seems like you need a country album to sell records these days."
Scott's voice was pretty damn Countryish on Purple.  It's nothing new, country has always been a big influence of Scott's.  Listen to the whole album before you judge it, you haven't even heard it.  You'll love it after a few listens.

STP Shows: 5/1/08, 6/24/08, 12/31/08, 7/1/09, 5/25/10, 6/5/10, 10/29/10, 9/22/12, 5/30/13, 9/1/13
Velvet Revolver Shows: 7/22/06, 9/15/07
Scott Weiland Shows: 12/14/08, 12/8/11

I've put all the previews together in one mp3 for anyone interested, and for those who cannot access the streams:

http://www.mediafire.com/?mxyyrwzzrz2

1. Take A Load Off (Preview)
2. Dare If You Dare (Preview)
3. Hazy Daze (Preview)
4. Peacoat (Preview)
5. Fast As I Can (Preview)
6. First Kiss On Mars (Preview)
7. Maver (Preview)

I cant get Cinnamon to play either sadly.

I think "Fast As I Can" is my personal fav from what I've heard so far. It might just be me hear but I hear purple styles out of a few songs which is great

Thanks so much Only_dying!!

I love them all!

The melody in the chorus reminds me of All The Young Dudes a little bit.

So can we confirm that this is the secret event with myspace having to do with the albums release? Or is there more to come?

Holy God this has potential to be my favorite album of all time. Fuck HD, Between the Lines and Bagman. Those songs had me worried. The rest of the album sounds incredible. My 3 fav clips are:

1. Take a Load Off
2. Maver
3. Dare if you Dare
Sin makes me strong.
