Holy hell! This is rockin guys! I gotta say I really hear some transmissions from a lonely room in this one. Either way it does have a unique feel from any of their prior work

I dont get where some with the comparison game.  Evenflow? Nirvana-esque "Yeah"? Really? Do you guys listen to any music not outside the time frame of 91-94?

I was gonna crack that Scott stole yeah from the Collective Soul guy but was beaten to it.

I agree.  It doesn't sound anything like Even Flow.  Sorry Pearl Jam fans.
LoL. Awesome.... I ask a question and get shit like that? Pearl Jam fans?! Dude, since I was a freshman in highschool STP has been my favorite band. In '93. My second? The Beatles. Is that enough before the 90's for ya? I thought this forum was for conversation about THE BAND AND THEIR MUSIC. Smartass.... ::)

Wow, this song is SOOOO much better than the 30 sec myspace clip lead me to believe.  The chorus really soars, and the follow up to it (the "give you all those diamonds" bit) is just... badass.

I wish I hadn't given in and listened to those clips... this instance really rubs it in for me.  :-[

Great fucking track, though.  ;D

I thought people would like the song better than this.  Would you rather Scott sound like shit with a lack of overdubs and vocal production?  Whatever they did, I think the song sounds AMAZING.

I agree Brett.  This song is 10/10.

He still sings well live... again Libertad sounded really good and he came off much more natural on that.

The song is really good... love the verses, love the chorus, but don't like that autotune.

So Rik/Ivy/possibly Brett...would you guys just want to post all the lyrics? :) Eh? Eh? Only if you happen to be bored.

More wild guesses in here:

TAKE A LOAD OFF

Some were meant for (???) was mostly superstitious
Now the kings of media invent the swine flu visions
Take a load off
Take a load off - yeah
Take a load off
Take a load off - yeah

Yeah, it's alright
As we (ro??) out into the night
Yeah, just set us free
When our shadow passes through the street

Do you want those diamonds?
Get you more and more
Shattered all those lies
I bought you from the record store

(??)
(??)
Some were meant for ??? was mostly superstitious
Now the kings of media invent the swine flu visions
Take a load off
Take a load off - yeah
Take a load off
Take a load off - yeah

Yeah, it's alright
As we (ro??) out into the night
Yeah, just set us free
When our shadow passes through the street

Do you want those diamonds?
Get/give you more and more
Shattered all those lies
I bought you from the record store

Yeah, it's alright
As we mosey on into the night
Yeah, just set us free
Could our shattered past just set us free?
Sin make me strong.

This has a very space-rock feel to it.  Like driving down the highway at night, with the top down gazing up at a full moon kind of sound to it.  Nah mean? 8)

Now that you mention it, it has a little bastard-child-of-Steve Miller Band vibe to it.   8)

Yeah man. That's it. I was kidding you......
Anyway, the song gets better with every listen. Like a lot of their other stuff, you can pick up subtle things each time you play it. One of the great things about a forum like this is that you have so many opinions and different insight into everything. Some people think it sounds like nothing they've ever done. Some people think it sounds like "classic" STP. IMO you could put this on SLDD and it would fit right in. I know that I'm kind of a homer, but if the rest of S/T is this good... just WoW... what a great return for the boys.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It sounds much closer to the mood of SLDD than any other STP album. Although, I think it also bares a slight resemblance to Army of Anyone.

Thanks for sharing!

For the past two months, I've been listening to Between the Lines and hoping that Take A Load Off just immediately starts afterwards. Now, I have the chance to listen to at least the first four songs in the order they're on the album.

I can't wait for this album!

Ah, I got the Army of Anyone vibe too.  The verses sound like something out of Purple.  <---That is quite welcome.
