I don't know why they didn't release Cinnamon.  Whether you like it or not it is going to be a hit, no doubt about it.  Once that garners some attention from the media outlets and the public they can expect more play from their other singles.  Bad move not to go that route IMO.

I agree totally. STP's biggest buyers that are  outside the STP camp are the people who hear one of their pop style songs. Think about it:

Plush hit and then acoustic Plush brought STP to light radio stations
ISL pushed Purple from the alt rock stations to the easier listening rock audience.
So did Lady Picture Show
And then, there's no denying that Sour Girl got the most widespread airplay off of anything from No. 4.
SLDD was a marketing mess so I won't even go there.

I am in the camp that TALO was a great 2nd single choice, but it's not being supported with a video (hell, even a YouTube or MySpace promo would be smart), but the next single needs to appeal to that pop radio crowd and Cinnamon would do that.

I describe it like this:
In Chicago, Q101 and Loop listeners want hard rock STP, but 101.9 and 100.3 listeners want the ethereal poppy stuff, and they'll buy the albums when they hear it.
STP Shows: 12/12/1996 | 10/12/2001 | 05/17/2008 | 05/22/2008 | 03/20/2010 | 08/20/2010
CheSTP Shows: 04/23/2015
JeffTP Shows: 09/26/2019
Velvet Revolver Shows: 05/19/2004 | 11/21/2004 | 04/29/2005 | 08/13/2005 | 05/10/2007 (w. Slash signed Setlist) | 08/28/2007
Scott Weiland Shows: 05/10/2014 | 11/20/2015

If Cinnamon is released, played alongside songs from Lifehouse, Rob Thomas, Lady Gaga and such, then it will be a hit. That is not a direction I would want to see for STP, but it would work nonetheless.

However, any new fans they make from that direction will be alienated if they put out a heavy album next time. the 13 yr. old girl/Twilight fan crowd would not like STP songs such as Sex Type Thing, Meat Plow, or Pop's Love Suicide.

How do you know itll be a hit??

Because like a parasite, it crawls into your brain and stays there - no matter how hard you try, you can't get it out of your head.

I am still against the release of Cinnamon as a single, but it can see how it can work. However, I'm more afraid of if it DOESN'T work and it flops. Then what? I think that would be harder to recover from.

Yeah I agree with you. A lot of people here will be saying "told you so" if that happens lol. Regardless, I still support Cinnamon's quest to be a single. In my opinion, Fast As I Can has huge potential for rock radio. It is without a doubt my favorite song on the album and one of STP's best

I think First Kiss on Mars is a safer single for STP to release fan-wise than Cinnamon.  Cinnamon is way too pop, at least FKOM has a bit of a Bowie/Alt vibe.  Cinnamon is way too sugar sweet for me...

Yea I think Fast As I Can would be a great, edgy, rock single.  Cinnamon would be a good song to get a new audience into STP.   I wouldn't care if they play it on pop stations or whatever.   I would also like Hickory Dichotomy, or FKOM...  any of these would be a good 3rd single.

I still think FAIC is overrated among these boards, but to each their own. It's a decent rocker, but I think it's got too much of a country twang to it to be a solid rock single that the masses would embrace. I think Huckleberry or Hickory would be better choices.

I agree with loungefly completely...i think it'd be a big mistake to release fast as i can as a single.

if one song on this album has lazy lyrics or a lazy hook it's this one. i just can't get over how uncreative the chorus is. you could obviously say the same thing about cinnamon, but sometimes its better to sing nothing/jibborish than anything at all i'll take "yeah come on, come on now" over "i don't know, i'm feeling oh so low, i'm feeling oh so high, why-why-why am i crying?" any day...not to mention the dreadfully repetetive "she don't even like you anymore, she don't even like you anymore, ain't no chance she loves you like before"....we get it

i like the song, don't get me wrong, but it's kind of a guilty pleasure for me that i'd play for myself in the car but not anyone else...additionally, the one time i did have this on in the car while someone else was with me, they asked me if it was buckcherry....ewwww

if they want a radio hit, cinnamon's clearly the way to go...there's a lot weaker shit on rock radio these days anyway

When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

You guys are nuts.  "Fast As I Can" is the instant favorite for everyone I play the album for.  I hear them humming the chorus and they mention it's their favorite.  It would be a huge rock radio hit.

TALO might be the next single but this afternoon 101.9 RXP was playing rock blocks. The STP block was Vasoline, Sex type thing and....CINNAMON  :)

Ok...so I have heard that song 2 times during the WPIX Morning news and now on NY radio. It clearly needs to be the next single. People seem to really like it.
If you don't like STP, then you're pretty much not American (from a MO message board)
