It was just a year ago that I didn't expect STP to make an album, much less stay together, much less have a single to reach the top of the charts. If anything, we should all be very happy they've been able to do that much.

Between The Lines was definitely their cash cow for this album, but I can see where it would limit the sales. Take A Load Off is a good single to release because it will reel in the "meat and potatoes" STP fans. It's the bridge between their earlier work and this album, whereas Between The Lines is an STP that a lot of people don't understand. This is what I think their mentality is behind releasing it. However, this single is in desperate need of a music video, because that's what people respond to more these days, and it needs to be something that showcases the actual band a little bit more. Though BTL was cool, newcomers really don't know wtf is going on...

If it was my choice, I would've released these songs as singles in this order:

Between The Lines
Hickory Dichotomy
Take A Load Off
First Kiss On Mars
Do you like STP? Check out my band! We're heavily STP-influenced. http://dropdeadsixtymusic.bandcamp.com/

Yeah! Put an online request in last night and got the following email earlier today:

(my name),
Your STP request is coming up next.

Forrest
Program Director KDVV V-100

Of course, I wasn't listening to that station but to another that hasn't played it yet (despite requesting several times), but plays every other new and old song from 90's era bands. Guess it is time to show some loyalty to the other station, huh?

Just checked the Playlists for the rock station in NY (they list all the songs they play and keep playlists up for a week or so)...still have not played Take A Load Off.

Really not sure what is going on with this single.  Its not like this is some little unknown band.  Radio should give the song a chance at least.

I flip through the radio stations for one hour each way, back and forth from Toronto, everyday. I have not heard TALO even once.

I'm not a fan of this album, but I still don't understand why the second single isn't getting any airplay at all.

Also, what pushes a song to #1 on the radio? I mean, even if they play it alot, how the hell do they know if anyone even likes the song. I doubt BTL got to #1 by people requesting it.

I dont get why it wouldnt be getting a chance either.  The edge in T.O,  played the shit of ouf BTL and still plays it regularly, and TALO is a good tune so it beats me.  Rock radio is a mystery

It's getting regular play in Atlanta on Project 96.1.  So there's some good news.

This is significant. Hopefully it keeps moving. It is upto 34 in the Active Rock list.

I have yet to hear in on the main rock station in Erie, but I never heard BTL on that station either. It pisses me off the only station that even plays STP or other than Core around here is across the lake.

I don't get why TALO hasn't had much air play. You would think coming off a number one single they would atleast try to get if off the ground. But then again we are in an era where Sex in the City's sound track outsells an STP album. For some reason it doesn't surprise me.

Lazy question, but is there some kind of database of request links we could use to request it at some of the major rock stations?
Does anyone think something like that would help?

I also would love to know why they aren't playing TALO live especially while they are in Europe. I'm amazed it's even charting with the lack of promotion. Is there some strategy I'm unaware of where bands don't play new singles live or something? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I think a lot of it is about how much the single is promoted OR how much the record labels can scratch the radio station's back. Someone mentioned Atlantic withdrew promoting funds, so that might be the reason.

I've made mention of this before in another thread. I love the band and want the best for them, so maybe if they played songs from the new album, the album would sell better. It's not like they have to remove Plush or ILS from the set, but at least adding Take A Load Off or Fast As I Can wouldn't hurt.
