Dead and Bloated as an opener?
« on: April 07, 2010, 03:19:31 AM »
I know D&B is usually saved for the encore but imagine this scenario...

They dim the lights and STP is still back stage.  Then You hear scott belting out I AM SMELLING LIKE A ROSE THAT SOMEBODY GAVE ME ON MY BIRTHDAY DEATHBED!     then they all walk out in the pause before the next lyrics.  Then Scott really gets the crowdd going cocking the megaphone up and yelling I AM SMELLING LIKE A ROSE THAT SOMEBODY GAVE ME BECAUSE IM DEAD AND BLOATED!  Then they kick into the song and they have a dynamite start to a set!  And Trippin on a hole in a paper heart is no slouch as a closer.

Any thoughts?

Yeah I definitely agree. Everyone knows it as the opening song of Core, which its perfect for...so it would definitely be a perfect opener for a concert

That's exactly what I was thinking! And epecially with how the song begins it provides the perfect oppertunity to pump up the crowd and have a dynamite start!  I can just see Right when the instruments come in, the crowd going crazy!

core's opening track(dead & bloated) is a bomb. core is a breakthrough album. it signals the end of seattle scene which i didnt like either...rock n roll lives as long as the Pilots is here ;)

They should open with an energetic song, thats for sure. I think they should open with D&B or Crackerman, followed by Unglued. Damn, i love unglued!

i still think Down is the perfect opening song. It's crazy energetic, one of best STP live songs, and the fact the first lyrics are "Pleased to meet you, nice to know me" is perfect for the opening song in the set
When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

Dead and Bloated at the start of the show would be like a premature ejaculation.

They should use Silvergun, Meatplow, Crackerman, Coma, or Down followed by Vasoline.

My perfect opening:

1. Coma
2. Vasoline
3. Tumble in the Rough
4. Wicked Garden

As long as the opening song kick starts the show!  The first time I saw them they opened with big empty and i wasnt a fan of that.

Down is my perfect opener, too; it would sound so good after what seems to be endless waiting between the opening band and STP.  The quiet intro would step up the building anticipation that has been going on all night, then all would explode!  Dead and Bloated would definately be a strong opener, though, and would have the same explosion effect, except Scott's much more powerful/aggressive prior to the song's major kickoff.
“The news reports said I’d torched $10,000 worth of Scott’s clothes, which was wrong by a factor of eight. He was somewhat insulted at their estimate: ‘Eighty thousand dollars, Mary,’ he said later.”

Every time this discussion comes up I say Down. It has always been my potential favorite opener.

As for D&B, it's just too perfect as encore. Hard to see it as opener but why not?

I think Dead and Bloated would be a great opener.  Down would be awesome as well.  I also think No Way Out with its sort of mellow start before it hits heavy would be great, though I guess its not necessarily considered a greatest hit kind of song.

What if the opener had to be from the new album?  I think the only song with a strong enough rock opening is Hazy Daze.

1.  All In the Suit That You Wear
2.  Crackerman
3.  Down

From the new album I'd go with Huckleberry Crumble or maybe Hickory Dichotomy
