Should STP play "Down" to open up thier set?
« on: April 06, 2010, 07:18:12 PM »
it was something i was thinking about, also one of the many, im disappointed that they took Down off the list.  big empty was an ok opener, silvergun superman was awesome.  vasoline is just weird i love the tune but since scott is having timing issue of late which vasoline the guitar is 4/4 and the drums is 3/4 (or vise versa im sure someone will correct me),so i image it can get tricky sometimes. down is perfect its a straight rocker and i believe it was the first song to be worked on when they started on no.4,for that same reason just to get everyone on the same page. i think they should drop sour girl and add Down as an opener...and in place of sour girl they should pick one of two of the acoustic tracks on the new album. any thoughts or am i way off base?

I don't know about a set opener because it's hard to sing... Scott's voice needs to be warmed up for that one. But yes, there's no reason they should take that out of the setlist. It rocks live and it's one of the few songs Scott still sounds amazing singing live. I'm very disappointed they omitted that one from the set to make room for the new tunes.

I've always fantasized with Down as opener, only imagine the lights down, completely dark and Down begins, and the crowd goes nuts, it's awesome!

Down, Vasoline, Crackerman, and Coma are all perfect openers
Picked a song, sang a yellow nectarine.

hell yeah man, Down would be a perfect opener. I think No Way Out would be great too.

IMO, they should omit both sour girl and creep until they start adding an acoustic set into the middle of their shows again. Sour Girl sounds rushed nowadays, and Creep is just so much better acoustic.

I haven't been to any of the recent shows, but I'm surprised that Down isn't being played. I'm all about the deep album cuts, but I'd take Down over Hollywood Bitch any day of the week.

I'd drop Crackerman before Hollywood Bitch.  But yeah, I still want me some Down!  Not too complain, because I'd be happy enough with whatever the band wants to play.

Yes, I agree, Down would be a great opening song. I've often thought that. Imagine Down opening, then going right into Unglued. Damn that would be awesome...

Really enjoyed Coma as the opener at Rolling Rock in '01.

I think they should cut Lounge Fly (GASP) and replace it with Down. And they should also cut Sour Girl and play Wonderful instead.

I am gonna agree and disagree, I think Lounge Fly is so powerful live. I wish Dean would use a slide again instead of scott mimicking it.

And yeah I think Sour Girl is not the slow atmospheric tempo it used to be. Wonderful would make me cry if I saw it live.  ::)

Still Remains would sound better and be more effective then Sour Girl and Wonderful.

I was thinking more along the lines of a slow tempo ballad. Still Remains' tempo is actually quite fast for a love song.

And I love Lounge Fly as much as the next guy (probably my favorite song off my favotire album) but I think Down is a better opener/lead in to the encore.

How about take Wicked Garden off and putting Lounge Fly in front of Between the Lines?
