Scott needs a Tele-Prompter with the Lyrics on stage.
« on: April 01, 2010, 02:38:14 AM »
I don't think I've seen a full show from 1996 onwards - where Scott hasn't sung the wrong Lyrics in a verse or or come in late to a section in at least one song per gig.

For those who don't know what a Tele-prompter is/does:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teleprompter

A lot of people use these and it could be a great way to get a more solid and confident show - from the best front man out there.

This could also be a way to get more of the rarities into the set ;-)

Other artists who use Teleprompters:

Mick Jagger
Brian Wilson
Perry Farrell
James Hetfield
Anthony Keidis

You may also notice a common theme - in that:

All these artists have lived pretty hard lives with drugs and alcohol abuse.

Anyway - this is just an opinion.

Thoughts?

But Eric doesn't play to a click.

How do they sync it with tempo variance?

Maybe that's the problem.

I dunno. I'm guessing it's controlled via the soundboard or something.

I saw one on the stage at the April 7, 2008 show, and then I could see one in the reflection of the drum riser at the show last week in Kansas City.

I'm willing to bet that Scott messes up a majority of the lyrics when he's not standing in the middle of the stage with a mic stand.

And really, Scott doesn't mess up too often. 6 STP, 1 VR, and 1 solo show, and I've never had issues with the one or two lyrics he flubs a show.

It would be so easy to mess up lyrics, esp with people screaming in the backround....he doesn't usually derail and forget all lyrics, he just flubs them now and then!

I completely agree with you guys.

I'm more so thinking in order to get more of the rare tracks out there though.

I really want them to be like Pearl Jam - in the way they change up the set every night - sure, have your staples in there - but it'd be awesome to hear.

"This next's one called 'Adhesive'"

or 'Church On Tuesday', 'Glide', 'Black Again', etc.

This all started because of him stuffing up in that - '..And So I Know' live video - Imagine seeing that start to finish - boy!!!!

It would be great to hear some of those deep album cuts that have never been played. But I think it's up to the band to choose what they want to play.

I even asked Dean about playing Bi-Polar Bear and he said something like "haha, I wish."

Scott's fault.  >:(

The And So I Know video from the New Years Eve show from 2001?  Rob was the one who forgot the rest of the song. You can hear him apologizing about it at the end of the video.

Scott just needs to put down the "painkillers" and quit with the booze.
How could they not notice it?! Because it's a little mint.  It's a Junior Mint!

Personally, I don't think that lyric flubs are that big a deal.

The major problem as I see it is that Scott is permanently disconnected these days - he seems to be in a world of his own and many of the performances are on autopilot as a result. So, when he's out of time or anything changes, he simply doesn't seem to notice.

For example, I'm thinking of VR at Rockpalast when the regular set was shortened. I distinctly remember watching Matt patiently explaining to Scott SEVERAL TIMES why he had announced the wrong song and which one should be next. You could see that Scott just wasn't getting it.

Agreed and if he is taking painkillers (Funny how I blurted out about painkilolers the day before - freaky) WITH booze? it will give the effect of the drugs.

Basically, booze is a nervous depressant in itself and painkillers are and will be usually strong (particularly if we are talking diclofenac or ibuprofen rather than paracetamol or something like that.)  Shove them both together and we have what we are seeing.

My poor Scott!  :'(  if he isn't taking opiates (if it is opiate based painkillers in this case - this maybe the reason as Tramadol can be used as a antidepressant drug as well) he's trying to mix things akin to it.  Also we could have drug-drug interactions between his bipolar meds and painkillers.

That is interesting that all those guys use teleprompters. I had no idea.

The drugs and booze are the real problem here. I agree with others in this thread that one or two flubbed lyrics out of an entire show don't bother me. It's the show where he starts wrecking full songs, and that is all because of the drugs.

Also, I hear what people are saying about the broken heel/painkiller theories, and that may be the case. But he's not obligated to get loaded to be able to do a show where he dances around all night. That's bullshit. I would rather Scott sit or stand in one place during the whole show and put on a good, solid vocal performance the whole night. Granted, the visual part is a big part of a rock show, but come on -- this is a rock band -- the music, and thus a good quality musical performance, is the most important thing. Everything else is incidental.

For example, you'll never hear, "The video screen broke, and the whole show went to shit after that! I mean, the band sounded great, but the show just sucked!"

It's all about the music, and it's all about the performance. A good musical performance = happy fans. Always.
