STONE ROCK: Stone Temple Pilots touch down on Alternative Songs at No. 39 with "Between the Lines," the format cornerstone band's first entry on the list since 2003.

The Scott Weiland-led group's new track concurrently starts as the Hot Shot Debut on Rock Songs at No. 40.

"Between the Lines" marks STP's 20th visit to Alternative Songs. The band first arrived on the April 10, 1993, chart with the eventual No. 9-peaking "Plush." The band has risen as high as No. 2 with three songs: "Vasoline" and "Interstate Love Song" (1994) and "Big Bang Baby" (1996).

Before this week, the band had last charted with "All in the Suit That You Wear," which reached No. 19 in November 2003.

Stone Temple Pilots separated in 2003 and reunited for a 75-date tour in 2008. The band releases its self-titled sixth studio album May 25.

The actual album went to one, not the songs.

Just for additional info: Alternative used to be the Modern Rock chart, and Rock used to be the Mainstream Rock chart.  STP has never hit #1 on the Modern Rock chart, but they have on the Mainstream Rock chart.

Never got the difference between the two.  Interesting that they never hit #1 on the modern rock chart. especially with ILS.

Very exciting news considering the single hasn't even been released to iTunes yet.

I knew it would be a hit! It already cracked the top 40 and it hasn't even been officially released.

Notice on their website how they make you tweet their song to listen. Good marketing.

You can mark my words....this song will reach #1 on the rock charts and I'm guessing it has a strong chance of being a #1 album!

Let me clarify that it's the music that really matters. I'm just glad to hear some new STP.  ;D

Yeah.  I doubt that BTL will chart as high as those two songs, but you never know!

Can't wait to see Stp and Aic May 22nd in D.C.. Wish they would team up and do an extended tour of the U.S.. I think it would be awesome to see like a big 4 tour of grunge bands, like the big four tour of metal.. Metallica, Megadeth,Slayer and Anthrax. Be like Pearl Jam, Stp, Soundgarden and Alice in chains. Or maybe even like Live in the mix if they were not broke up. what do you guys think ?
