That was god awful.
The music wasn't that bad, but the lyrics were terrible, and I wasn't too keen on the whole sound. It sounds alot more like Velvet Revolver then STP. I was really hoping for more of a No. 4 type sound from the new album, but I suppose i'll just have to wait and see, hopefully the full version of this song sounds alot better then this.
So no, I didn't think it was that bad, but compared to their old stuff it definitely wasn't good. Agh, those lyrics!
So let me get this straight, first it's "god awful". Then it's "not bad music, terrible lyrics". Then it's "I didn't think it was that bad, but compared to their old stuff it definitely wasn't good".
You sure are full of contradictions. And let me guess, you think Anthems for the Damned is the greatest creation ever. Seriously, are you a bitter version of Richard Patrick's sex slave?
I'm not saying this song will save rock & roll by any means, but I think you're maybe jumping the gun a little bit in your judgment? Saying it's "god awful" based on 18 seconds proves how close minded you are. You're not even willing to give it a chance, so why even bother listening? I think you should honestly just go ahead and restrict your listening of this album to what you've heard thus far. Just a little friendly advice. No need to put yourself or any of us through more, we all already know how you're going to feel.
As far as lyrics go, that's fine, you think they're awful. That's all pretty subjective and you're entitled to your opinion, but I do find it EXTREMELY comical that the measuring stick you use to measure any vocalist by is Richard Patrick. Mr. one track mind all of my lyrics are about George W. Bush. WOW! That's GENIUS! No one bashes George W. Unheard of! How creative, let me tell you, he's really pushing the envelope!
Seriously, your poster boy dedicated a whole album to basically writing about George W. Bush. Talk about a one track mind. Oh and of course his alcoholism (funny, because you criticize Weiland for singing about drugs, I guess it would be cooler if it was about pounding a brewsky instead). By the way, his topic was a little late to the party. The album comes out in 2008 after Bush's second term is almost done and everyone already hates him. Maybe if he had come out with the album 5 years before that, the album would be more revolutionary.
I realize he does sing a lot about the troops and the war, too, and obviously that's a great thing. Please don't take this to mean any criticism for our troops - because that's just not how I feel. BUT, the W bashing was pretty played out by the time Patrick got to it, so I found his continuous non stop ranting to be pretty annoying. Just saying, to bash Weiland's lyrics and ability when you hold Patrick on a "can do no wrong" pedestal is frankly pure hilarity.
