^ I agree.

I'm also a little concerned about whether a song with the line, "we used to take drugs" will get widespread radio play. But maybe that isn't an issue, I don't know.

That's the pathetic double standard between rock and rap. Well one of them at least.

That was god awful.

You know i respect your opinion and all but do you really think its that bad? i've played this for plenty of people  today and the majority thought "wtf is this shit??" and the others thought it was ok and my little nephew thought it was She Builds Quick Machines....
being a big fan you kinda want everyone to like it but remember its only a 20 second clip
I have to say i LOVE the music but the only part that kinda turned me off on it was Scott..
I just hope the rest of the album kicks ass since i don't really have big hope on singles.
Alice in chains BGWTB was fuckin great and i really enjoyed Check My Brain as their single, i just hope STP has the success AIC is having.

The music wasn't that bad, but the lyrics were terrible, and I wasn't too keen on the whole sound. It sounds alot more like Velvet Revolver then STP. I was really hoping for more of a No. 4 type sound from the new album, but I suppose i'll just have to wait and see, hopefully the full version of this song sounds alot better then this.

So no, I didn't think it was that bad, but compared to their old stuff it definitely wasn't good. Agh, those lyrics!

Yea that's what i was saying before the clip even came out, his lyrics nowadays are nowhere near what he's capable of doing, i mean really? "you always were my favorite drug..even when we used to take drugs...even when we used to take!" those are by far the worse lyrics i have heard from him for a chorus. that and She Builds Quick Machines are just lyrical failures. Scott is the type of guy that writes lyrics and has you figured them out on your own and he never makes them obvious  specially if they have to do with taking drugs. Oh well i'll still give it a chance.
If you only knew..

Are we sure that snippet is actually the chorus though? I'm still hoping that this is just a leadup to the chorus. If it is the chorus then I agree, it doesn't sound that impressive.

So let me get this straight, first it's "god awful". Then it's "not bad music, terrible lyrics". Then it's "I didn't think it was that bad, but compared to their old stuff it definitely wasn't good".

You sure are full of contradictions. And let me guess, you think Anthems for the Damned is the greatest creation ever. Seriously, are you a bitter version of Richard Patrick's sex slave?

I'm not saying this song will save rock & roll by any means, but I think you're maybe jumping the gun a little bit in your judgment? Saying it's "god awful" based on 18 seconds proves how close minded you are. You're not even willing to give it a chance, so why even bother listening? I think you should honestly just go ahead and restrict your listening of this album to what you've heard thus far. Just a little friendly advice. No need to put yourself or any of us through more, we all already know how you're going to feel.

As far as lyrics go, that's fine, you think they're awful. That's all pretty subjective and you're entitled to your opinion, but I do find it EXTREMELY comical that the measuring stick you use to measure any vocalist by is Richard Patrick. Mr. one track mind all of my lyrics are about George W. Bush. WOW! That's GENIUS! No one bashes George W. Unheard of! How creative, let me tell you, he's really pushing the envelope!

Seriously, your poster boy dedicated a whole album to basically writing about George W. Bush. Talk about a one track mind. Oh and of course his alcoholism (funny, because you criticize Weiland for singing about drugs, I guess it would be cooler if it was about pounding a brewsky instead). By the way, his topic was a little late to the party. The album comes out in 2008 after Bush's second term is almost done and everyone already hates him. Maybe if he had come out with the album 5 years before that, the album would be more revolutionary.

I realize he does sing a lot about the troops and the war, too, and obviously that's a great thing. Please don't take this to mean any criticism for our troops - because that's just not how I feel. BUT, the W bashing was pretty played out by the time Patrick got to it, so I found his continuous non stop ranting to be pretty annoying. Just saying, to bash Weiland's lyrics and ability when you hold Patrick on a "can do no wrong" pedestal is frankly pure hilarity.

Let's see...worried about this song not getting air play because they are talking about drugs? you are the perfect drug, don't like the drugs but the drugs like me, last dance with mary jane, cocaine, and the list goes on....nothing new...if it's a good song...it will get air time

Besides, considering the lousy job "The Chosen One" has done since taking office, he's made GW look like the best President ever. I wonder if Patrick will sing about how awful Obama has been? Doubt it since Patrick is a liberal and would never be unbiased.

Okay..let's get back to the topic and not make it Filter vs STP, or even politics.

Just checked my email, got one from the STP mailing list and it said:

***New Single***
Some of you may have heard a teaser clip floating around the internet, but it's nothing compared to the real deal.

So there. Everybody calm down. THE SONG IS GOING TO BE AWESOME.

Am I the only one that's NOT so excited about the clip? The sample sounds kind of generic for an STP song and the lyrics are just.....well........corny. :-

Well, originally I said it was god awful, but then I saw the music video and it turned me on to it a bit more.

It is god awful compared to what I was expecting from STP, it just isn't that bad compared to most other rock music today, is that better? If me saying that it's god awful based on the 18 second clip is close minded, then why aren't you telling every single person who thinks it's the god damn bee's knees that they're close minded?

Next, I don't measure all vocalists by "Richard Patrick" standards, I don't think he's the greatest vocalist of all time, nor have I ever said that. I do agree however that he has been known for some pretty rediculous lyrics, but you do know that FILTER did make albums before Anthems right? So not all of his music is bashing W. George Bush. I don't see any reason for you to bring him up in this conversation, other then you being a a one track mind Scott fanboy who's sad that i'm not creaming over this clip.

I didn't critisize the lyrics because they were about drugs, I don't have any problem with Weiland singing about drugs, I just thought the lyrics were extremely bland and corny.

Get over yourself pal, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and just because I have one doesn't mean that it has to involve Richard Patrick, believe it or not.

(And no, I didn't care for Anthems too much, by the way)
