Thom Yorke makes joke about STP

I've never really been a fan of Radiohead, and Thom Yorke's comments did very little to change my opinion of him. He's still just as much of an egotistical little troll as he was before he made those comments.

At least we know he's got a little bit of taste because he picked Flea to play bass in his solo band.

What makes him egotistical?  I'm asking that as a serious question because I really don't know if I'm missing something.  Thom/Radiohead have always kept a pretty low profile up until 2007 or so.

I'm really not any die hard Radiohead fan or anything, but I do think The Bends/OKC are some of the best albums ever, and I really enjoy In Rainbows.  Kid A and Amnesiac however, are among the worst albums I've ever heard.  So they're really hit or miss.  I'm just saying that I can count on one hand how many genuine, admirable personalities are alive in rock today.  They're all a bunch of mouthy pricks, but their attitudes never hurt my record collection either.

I could never get into Radiohead, I find everything more or less the same. That comment doesn't do anything to me

If you think that The Bends to Kid A, or OK Computer to Amnesiac sound even, hell, similar, I would wager that you haven't even listened to them.

True, I haven't listened to them, 'cause if I don't like the singles I won't get into a whole album by a band that doesn't call my attention (that's what I meant with "could never get into Radiohead").

I don't think thom was taking a jab at STP , I think its because radiohead traditionally plays music that isn't as heavy or radio friendly as STP  and thom knows STP is a singles band and most importantly a rock band. Thom was basically saying "if you don't like our deep sounds scape  then go listen to a different band. radiohead doesn't jam on traditional rock textures.

I agree completely.  Hardly an insult.  He didn't say STP sucked and he's right, in a band assembled to bring his solo record to the stage, and Freebird would be just as out of place as Heaven and Hotrods.

There could have been any number of millions of possible reasons why he said STP and like someone else said, it wasn't like he said they were bad or anything. Maybe he's actually a fan, so that band was the first one that popped to mind. What if someone said "Play some KISS" would he have then replied, "Oh, how about some Soundgarden?" causing a tailwind of hatred hurtling toward radiohead from countless Soundgarden fansites.

STP is my favorite band too guys, but I don't really think it is of any particular significance every time anything at all, positive, negative, nuetral or as I see in this case, completely meaningless pops up.

You know how Scott played STP songs on his solo tours whenever the crowd started demanding him to? It's kind of like that, except Thom didn't give in and he stuck with his solo stuff.

And as Radiohead's song goes, Thom is a creep, and he is a weirdo, imo.
