I was watching Jeopardy the other day on hulu when a clue with STP as the answer popped up. I looked it up, and it looks like they've been an answer 5 different times on the show. Here are all the clues, dollar amounts, categories, and episode dates.



2017-03-23 -- DECODING THE HITMAKING BAND  $1000: In order: rock, a place of worship, a bunch of aviators

2014-11-1 -- NOT A POP GROUP, YET A POP GROUP  $600: Scone or Rosetta; a Jewish house of worship; Chuck Yeager & the Red Baron

2008-04-23 -- MUSICAL INITIALS $1200: The name of this grunge band with hits like "Interstate Love Song" is sometimes shortened to STP

2004-07-20 -- ROCK & ROLL $1,000 (Daily Double): The name of this '90s group was partly inspired by an STP motor oil logo

2000-03-27 -- PURPLE MUSIC $300: The 1994 album "Purple" by this band includes "Vasoline" & "Interstate Love Song"

2008-01-08 -- FIREARMS IN SHOW BIZ $1600: Slash must love the NRA; he went from Guns N' Roses to join STP's Scott Weiland in forming this supergroup

This guy DJ Cummerbund does pretty good/interesting/sometimes terrible remixs, this one has a bit of Creep in it. It's mostly based around Man in the Box and Genie in a Bottle.

Close. Purple wasn#1 for 3 weeks in 1994, thought it was pretty cool.

Was in Tuscany Italy on vacation recently. Listening to Virgin Radio while in the car, i heard Plush(twice), Interstate Love Song, and to my surprise, Never Enough from the new album. Have to say, sounded damn good on the radio.

Roger Avary (co-writer of Pulp Fiction) talking about Vasoline in the Bret Easton Ellis podcast. He thinks it's about doing jail time (it is?).


He also mentions Pruno is wine jail. Didn't know that.

Well we know that Howard Stern is a huge STP fan, and possibly a bigger Sponge fan. With the anniversary release of Purple happening now, I wonder if Stern asked the band to do an STP cover.  Howard Stern is largely credited as being responsible for the revival of "Plowed" and that track's continued stream rate on one of the streaming services, although I don't recall which one.

I also know that the Sponge guitarist is a big STP fan. They've had some lineup changes though, so I can't remember if it's the same guitarist I chatted with after a show once....  lmao!
