Old news, they've settled with Atlantic.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks.

On Atlantic Records' website, STP is NOT listed under artists.

There's a chance they'll release it for Atlantic, but until we have an album in our hands and we can look at the record label on the back of the CD case, everything anybody says is just speculation.

Scott LITERALLY said they were making it for Atlantic in several interviews this year.

I'd like some links to those interviews.

I know he deffinitely  said it in a magazine article early this year, unfortunately I can't seem to remember the name of the magazine.

However, I'm sure everyone else who read th article will back me up. His exact quote was that they had to make a couple more albums for Atlantic and he joked that he "would be playing a lot of drums in the next couple of albums."
Grab the hate and drown it out...

What exactly did Matt from the official site say about a photot shoot and his "hint" towards a Jan release date? I cannot locate his quote and was wondering if somebody could create a facsimile of sorts for me. Thanks alot!

I had mentioned a late December release date (after Christmas) and then he said
"Most bands won't release new music on the last Tuesday of the year. They opt to wait for the new year.  ;) "  The wink seems to indicate he knows something, I know he talks to the DeLeos and STP's management a lot.  He also said a new STP site would be launched when the new album comes out.  About the photoshoot, the new group photos are online on Ticketmaster and other ticketing sites, they're in the photos thread here.

The "new" STP facebook pages says this at the bottom of the info tab:

They are now hard at work on a brand new album set for release later this year.

Lets face it, if this album is going to come out in January of 2010, they are going to have to complete it before they tour all throughout the month of October. And seeing that their first show is this weekend they need to have this thing in the can by now in order to make January. Perhaps they are mixing it now and putting on the finishing touches. I hope so, I really hope this release doesn't fall to May or June of next year. I am sure it will be well worth the wait but for my own edification, I am hoping very early January.

I wonder how Scott's melodies are gonna be since he was in VR and did the solo thing and STP hasn't been for a while....his Psycho Pop signature melodies seem to be gone...then again he's older now.
If you only knew..

Well, chord choice and progression goes a long way in shaping the form a melody takes, so I attribute Weiland's "psycho pop" STP melodies more to what he hears when writing to the Deleo's arrangements.  Without the Deleo's (VR, Solo), his melody is the product of music in a different context.

If there is one thing I'm NOT worried about it's Scott's melodies. Vocalists like Scott are a dying breed if you ask me.

I just noticed that every song but the one by Army Of Anyone has been removed from Robert's MySpace. STP and Talk Show were both on Atlantic, so I'm wondering if it has something to do with the band and the record label....

I think definitely one of the main reasons why I love Scott so much is a combination of his excellent versatility, stage presence, and his ability to sing/write AMAZING melodies. Fred Durst was right when he said "Scott Weiland the melody man if you can't sing it nobody can"  ;D

It will be interesting to hear, especially, with Don Was. His work is pretty raw from what ived heard from him. I think theyll record it live as opposed to Brendon o Briens way of tracking drums first, then guitars, etc.... it will be a raw sounding album with very little production. I just hope it sounds as mature as the Army of Anyone album, what a good album that was, with Scott Weiland vocals. WOW!

Yea the producer decision is a big one. I was very surprised to say the least. Brendan has become such a huge contributor to their sound. I mean even when Rob & Dean produced Alien Ant Farm and Brendan mixed it, there were a lot of textures (especially guitar) that had an STP vibe, IMO.

On the flip side, I remember after SLDD, Scott saying that he wanted the next album to be very live, minimal overdubs, etc. So I wonder, was the choice behind choosing Don Was based on the fact that everyone and their mother has been using Brendan this past year? Or was it a conscious artistic direction? I wonder.

AOA sounded great still, but certainly different from the "sound" that STP records have. I'm sure the new record will deliver. But I am torn on this one...in one sense I feel like, it'd be great to see what another producer can pull out of them, but on the other hand, I feel like, if it isn't broken then don't fix it. (Unless the sluggish sales of SLDD are a "kind" of broken)
