Exactly! I'm dying to hear any new STP material...even the X-Mas song.

Somewhat related to STP...

I found this article about how music sales are down, despite the increase in digital sales...
anyway, there is a portion (below) where it says Atlantic is the top selling label., but read on and see what the CEO says.

Quote
"Music consumption has never been at a higher clip, it's just a matter of trying to turn it into revenue," he added.

Some record labels are making progress. Craig Kallman, chief executive of Warner Music Group Corp.'s Atlantic Records, whose artists include Kid Rock and T.I., said his label passed a milestone in the year to September by having its digital revenue exceed that from physical CD sales.

The label, the top-selling in the U.S. in 2008, has had to become more careful in choosing which artists to promote and more patient in waiting for their songs to break out, he said.

"You have to really be right about your hits. If you're going to invest that amount of time in them and not run as many records, you have to be way more right today than wrong," Kallman said.

Having read that...do you really think that they (Atlantic) would properly promote a new STP record if they recorded one for them?

the name sells itself. Why do you think Atlantic is putting up such a fight? Because STP sells records. There is no question a new record would sell WAY more than Shangri La, because they've been on hiatus for so long. Anticipation is high at this point, and the label wants to cash in. Would they promote it? Absolutely. But I think it's funny that the guy says it requires "patience", because the minute something stops working these days the labels pull the plug immediately.

well, i'd like to think that the STP would sell based on their track record of hits, but it doesn't always work that way...i think that No.4 was highly anticipated and it did just ok....with a great lead-in single by the way...

SLDD didn't do well, not because it wasn't highly anticipated, moreso, because it was improperly promoted (bad choice for first single, etc.)

STP's sales have steadily decreased, album to album...a new album is not a sure shot at selling well...you're right though...they know what STP is capable of and probably want to hold on to whatever artists they can. because as it seems, the music industry as we know it, is a dying one, unless something happens

it's hard to break new artists in and older veteran acts, can do it themselves.

Especially when the better selling albums recently seem to be veteran bands .. Metallica. ac/dc, RHCP ..

If your name is Madonna or U2.

It takes a lot more than a "name" to sell a band in the current music industry climate and let's also add in the economy.
If you don't like STP, then you're pretty much not American (from a MO message board)

i think the name selling itself works more in a tour/concert situation moreso than album sales...that's why you've had so much success with all these reunions...

STPBrett, I'm not trying to dig on you man, so let me frame this logically:

The only reason (as an Atlantic rep would see it), that we the fans would be petitioning Atlantic to let STP out of their contract is so that we can receive another STP album. Atlantic wants to sell us an STP album. All that's being done with this particular set of circumstances is confirming to Atlantic that they should have STP on their bill to make records.

Furthermore, you actually wrote on the petition that you met Scott Weiland and he told you to do this.  Ugh.  There's so much I could say about that, but I only say this: Don't send that to Atlantic because although petitions are typically disregarded anyway, this one might actually make the situation worse.

Geez... you actually wrote "I met Scott Weiland and he said...."

Scott has mentioned it in passing during interviews too, to write.  A lot of people probably won't sign it, so hopefully that'll make Atlantic think nobody cares about STP  8)

Stop flooding the boards and asking that all over the place.  Settle down, killer.
How could they not notice it?! Because it's a little mint.  It's a Junior Mint!
