Scott Weiland has signed a new publishing deal with Bug Music including his share of the Stone Temple Pilots catalogue and songs from future solo projects.

As part of the agreement Weiland will receive funding to pursue the development of creative projects and writers for Bug Music through his co-founded label, Softdrive Records.

The deal follows a resurgence of popularity in Stone Temple Pilots resulting from their recent reformation and concert tour.

Bug Music senior vice-president of creative services Eddie Gomez says, “I believe that Stone Temple Pilots catalogue has really stood the test of time, and that the band and their songs sound as good today as they ever have.”
Can we really find
A lovely magic place we dream of?

Does this mean we're going to start hearing Interstate Love Song in advertisements for Chevy?

I think this is great news and will be great promotion for STP/Weiland's music.

This is definitely a good thing. This means STP songs are going to start getting used for Film/TV purposes and thus get more exposure and, yes, that means the composers of the music will start getting lots of money. Good for them!

Why would that be any different then when they used "Wicked Garden" for the Nissan Xterra back in 99/00?

There were other songs used in car commercials, if I'm not mistaken.

Lame enough to almost make me want to buy an Xterra.

Until I relaized they were really ugly.

But to this day if I see one on the road "Wicked Garden" plays in my head.

I remember that truck commercial and was ok with it.
I really use to not like it when musicians leased their songs for commercials, shows and what not. But today the world is a much different place, with all of the illegal downloading. I mean big records use to sell over 10 million in the U.S. alone, (10 years ago) but now its mind blowing if you get half of that in the U.S.! Plus most illegally downloaded albums come from the rock community, most country and gospel albums still have good sales.....point being that I'm sure STP has been cheated out of well over a million bucks anyway you slice it cause of illegal downloading, so if leasing their songs gets them some of that money back then I'm cool with that.

Happy new year party peeps!
-Chase
