Talk Show Appreciation Thread.
« on: November 24, 2008, 07:05:33 PM »
As I anticipate the new Scott record, I began thinking back to 97-98 when we got both Talk Show and 12 Bar Blues. So I revisited the Talk Show album and I’d like to say that I’m so happy to have that in my collection...truly a great set of songs. Of course STP was always grander, and it took me several months to appreciate it (as I assumed that it marked the end of STP – I’m glad I assumed wrong), but there's something to be said about the talent that these incredible musicians possess.

Anyway, for those who have never listened to it, I strongly suggest checking it out, if you can find it. Dave Coutts is no Scott Weiland, but he doesn’t pretend to be. I wish we had some unreleased studio recordings from these guys. It’s bittersweet because I can’t say “too bad they didn’t last” because of course STP came back and delivered 2 more amazing albums (thus far), but I simply just wanted to post a thread of my appreciation of a vastly ignored album.

Good for you, Talk Show made a great album in little time. Coutts isn't Weiland, but they can't be compared anyways cause they're so different. I've been looking into Coutts' old band Ten Inch Men to pick up some tunes, and actually picked up their only studio album about a week ago, so I'm still waiting for it to come in the mail. Thanks to Talk Show though, we got "Glide" out of it.

Yea, "Saturday" would have been nice to hear in full studio format. I'm sure "Glide" is the better song (based on the live versions i've heard of Saturday), but nevertheless, it would have been cool. I'm sure Rob & Dean have that somewhere in their vaults, along with the "rough recording" of "About A Fool" with Seal. =)

Speaking of Couttsy-boy, I just received my copy of Ten Inch Men's only studio LP, Pretty Vultures in the mail. I'm about to load it on my iPod though. GO COUTTS POWER!!

I loved the Talk Show CD from the 1st listen. I felt alone for so long because it was getting slammed by almost everyone when it came out. It was like a dark secret if you liked it back then.

LMAO.  Ahh.  That's funny.

I'm with you, though.  I liked it at first listen.  I lost the album years ago and was without it for quite some time until someone sweet-as-pie replaced it for me recently.

Isn't it funny how you can go YEARS without hearing a song, and then on a first listen are able to recall every word to every line?  Talk Show just gives me warm fuzzies - I miss 96/97.   :)
How could they not notice it?! Because it's a little mint.  It's a Junior Mint!

I am in love with this cd.

So Long is an AMAZING song. I can't stop listening to it. But The Whole Album is great. I think coutts is a great singer.

But I just think anything the deleo's and kretz do is amazing. highly under rated trio IMO.

I need Rocketboy.

There is too much Talk Show love going around. I'm starting to get ill.
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

"Talk show is a terrible piece of smelly shit.  Nothing is worse.  NOTHING.  I'll never ever listen to any side-project the DeLeos work on... because of Talk Show.  Oh, brother - did I learn my lesson there!  And if YOU like Talk Show too much... I'll hurt you..."

Phew.  There.  I know Scotty wouldn't be able to rest if someone didn't throw some negativity around here.   :D   Hey - what are buddies for?
