I agree, the band was off. I didn't hear bass either.
It was in the wrong key - from my perspective.
But he gave it his heart and soul and that's what counts. He looks at peace with himself for the first time in a long time.

The song was tuned down (played in a lower key). This is usually done to facilitate Scott having an easier time with the vocals. STP and VR both did this quite frequently.
The band did play the song faster than the record version, but that is common with just about every band. Generally, record versions are usually slower than live performances. At least this wasnt a band like the Pumpkins, where everything is 2-3x as fast live.
I thought the live rendition was a good take on the song, different than the record, which is a good thing, IMO. I dont go see a show to see the songs performed exactly as I have already heard 1 million times.
I can definitely hear the bass, btw. Its totally there, and the mix is fine. People that are complaining about the bass check out the capture in the download section. I dont see the problem. This isnt STP where you can hear the bass over everything. STP is more bass-heavy than most bands both live and in the studio.
