Dumb Love
« on: November 06, 2008, 03:54:39 PM »
I was just listening to that as it came up randomly on my ipod shuffle... Man, that song gets dogged a little bit on here as being lame (some people like it) -- but Scott really did an amazing job on vocals in that tune. The lyrics aren't that great, IMO, but the harmonies he does in that song are really incredible. The "come on out your comin' home", and also the range he shows throughout the song. Unreal. Almost more impressive than No Way Out, Down and/or Coma.

I love this song. But I think the only way to reproduce it live, is collaborating with Chester  :o
Can we really find
A lovely magic place we dream of?

I thought for sure this was a song they'd play live.  Even back when SLDD was released.  And I remember Dean or Rob mentioning it in an interview before the reunion tour.  Oh well, I think Scott would sing most of it in his 'Core' lower voice.  Could be a good show opener.

I think Scott's vocals sound great and the band itself sounds raw. Love the sound....

I don't mind the song. It's a decent rocker. I just think it's rather generic compared to the rest of material from SLDD.
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

I agree. Seems like a song that would surface from the No. 4 sessions.

It's definitely as they say "Vintage STP" which is why it should have been a single along with 'Coma'. Yes, STP is MORE than just that sound/style, but if you're trying to be smart about it, entice the general public with what they do best. You know us die-hards were going to buy the album anyway.
STP: 07.31.00 | 08.04.01 | 10.24.01 | 04.23.02 | 10.11.02 | 05.31.08 | 09.05.10
SW: 11.30.11 | 03.12.13 | 08.29.14 | 03.10.15
VR: 05.28.04 | 05.18.07 || AoA: 02.01.07
CheSTP: 09.06.13 | 04.25.15 | 09.20.15 || JeffTP: 07.28.18 | 09.15.19

That opening riff just really kicks you in the nuts. Its really bad ass. Aside from that I only like the chorus.

Yeah, the general masses may prefer the hard rockers from STP. I just don't think it's a strong tune. It's definitely not as catchy as Coma. I think Coma blows Dumb Love out of the water, IMO.

yeah, reminds me a lot of down actually. just in the general structure and the heavy sound that was kind of rare for them after core. i really like it as a song, but for some reason the production kind of keeps me from loving it like their earlier heavy songs. i only like heavy when its raw sounding and abrasive rather than kind of compressed and slick like shangri-la dee da... i dont know im just really particular when it comes to this shit

I would normally be annoyed too, but he's putting an effort into his posts and not leaving one or two word replies. This is a new forum to him and he's not harming anyone. So just leave him be and let him enjoy.
