"Dumb Love" singlehandedly defeats almost every 'hard rock' song on No. 4, except maybe "Down," depending on the day.

Amen.  As my name indicates, it's one of my favorite STP songs and definitely my fav off SLDD for sure.  I always thought it was one of their hardest rocking songs, if not their "heaviest" one period.  I would love to hear it live.

I was going to make a new topic on this, but I will just throw it out in this one.  It's not going to happen, I understand, but man I would love Dumb Love to follow up BTL as a single.  STP needs a few songs to kick radio listeners in the balls (or cervix?) and Dumb Love has that more than any song on the new album.  I wanna see the guys do well whether it's with new songs or old and going back to a 'core' like song might help.  After that bring on a love tune.

What?

I don't think they're going to release a nine year old song as a single when they already have 11 other new songs from their new album to release as a single next.

However, that Dumb Love was NEVER released as a single back in 2001 is beyond me. This is a great opener and I love listening to Down and then to Dumb Love back to back almost everyday. I think both of those songs compliment each other very well. Plus, I love Scott's voice in Dumb Love.

I've always thought Dumb Love was kind of generic actually. It rocks hard, don't get me wrong. Compared to the rest of SLDD though, I've always considered it a 'filler' rocker because it pretty much goes against the grain of the rest of the album. It just seems to be on the album because you need a rocker to kick off an album.

I prefer Heaven and Hotrods over DL, but to each their own.
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

I dont understand why STP dont play some of these songs (Dumb Love, H&H, Sex & Violence, No Way Out, Etc) live more considering STP have a large enough catalogue to play a 2+ hour show.

Dumb Love is the best rocker on that record.  Whether or not it's better than the sockers on No 4 is another matter...  I say no.

i cant understand why they dont play some other songs.
Dumb love and coma are amazing...and they would be great live...no way out, sex & violence...even fast as you can from the last record.
its like they dont really care about their amazing legacy.

It's definitely as they say "Vintage STP" which is why it should have been a single along with 'Coma'. Yes, STP is MORE than just that sound/style, but if you're trying to be smart about it, entice the general public with what they do best. You know us die-hards were going to buy the album anyway.

Incredibly well said - this is something I've contended about their single release system for a long time now.  I love this song too...
