I HATE this song. This and arch angel are the 2 songs I do not like. I wish he could of put "Samba Nova" or "About a Fool" on the album instead.

I think Learning To Drive was originally going to be included on the STP album No. 4, but it's written exclusively by Scott.  About A Fool and Samba Nova were probably written by Scott and one of the DeLeo brothers.

I personally love this song.  It's even better with the pre-chorus ("keeping up with the joneses") section.  

At the show at Hollywood/Highland Courtyard, Scott introduced this song by saying that it was the product of an "unofficial" side project which I can't remember what he said it was called.  Anyway, the side project was Scott, Doug Grean, and Michael Weiland.

In the album liner notes, the song is credited to Weiland/Grean with everything but bass and drums by Scott and Doug.

I'm guessing the base tracks were done by Scott and Doug at Lavish, and then the DeLeos added some overdubs on the Outtakes version.  The album version is fantastic.  Very Tom Waits/Kurt Weill/kinky decadent eastern-european vibe.

What bothers me is the sudden abruption. It's a clunky transition.

Plus, I've been listening to the same song the past four years. I'm just used to hearing the demo version.
