A new solo song by VR singer Scott Weiland titled "Beautiful Day" will appear on the soundtrack to the horror flick Bug, which hits screens May 25. Chris Cornell and System of a Down's Serj Tankian also are contributing music to the disc.

I have been hearing about this soundtrack since last November.  It would be nice if it finally came out!  I read somewhere that the new release date is sometime in mid-may.

Just an update:

1) the movie will be released on May 25, 2007 in the US
2) the soundtrack will be released on April 13, 2007.

 Scott has a song called 'Beautiful Day' running during the end credits of William Friedkin's movie 'Bug' featuring Ashley Judd. The song is a new version of an STP-outtake with the title 'Learning To Drive' that leaked to the internet a couple of years before.

found this post from ejsme from the velvet-revolver forum.  It's interesting that the song was written before STP got involved (although it always sounded like a SW solo song imo)


Douglas/Scott -

Just curious, is the "Beautiful Day" song that you guys played at the Notre Dame show in any way related to "Learning to Drive?" I always thought that song sounded like a Weiland solo song more than STP -- more experimental than the other "unreleased" STP tracks.

Also, how does one get signed Softdrive Records???

Good ear. BD is LTD. It was submitted for STP's last record and they half recorded it and then passed on it. So we rerecorded it for this BUG movie that's coming out in April now. It was has gone thru 3 forms. The first version we wrote at Lavish before Shagri then the STP version and now our new and improved version 3.0.

It seems like Scott's new version clocks in at 5:09 which, doing some quick math, is about 52 seconds longer than the STP version.

Apparently the title will be "Learning to Drive" and not "Beautiful Day" like it was reported earlier.  Weiland adds a new pre-chorus (or bridge) vocal part that is pretty catchy.  The main vocal track sounds exactly like the STP version.  The drums were re-recorded though, but overall it still sounds more or less like the STP version.  It will be nice to finally have a high quality version of this song........perhaps we can convince Scott to release the other STP outtakes as solo songs as well :)
