I don't think it's a bad cover at all. It's better than Be Not Afraid. I dig the groove of it, I also like the original song.

Although this is one of my favorite songs on the CD I thought I have heard the beat before so I did some digging and to my surprise I found the song that sounds pretty damn close to it. Name of CD: The Aftermath
Group: RC
Song: Fame
So take a listen and let me no what you think and remember the music not the singing.

It's a hip hop cover of the song. I just checked it out on iTunes, and the preview was kinda weird, and then you hear "what you like is in the limo"
I have not heard it in a very long time it is a weird song but it reminded me of Scotts version more than Bowies but thats just me.

Probably the worst song off the album, he should have just re-done "Dirty Dog".

This seems to be more of a cover of "Fame '90 (Gas Mix)" off of the ChangesBowie album from 1990.  It's a Bowie hip hop remix of his own song.

The original version from Young Americans is much better IMO.

Either way, the Weiland version's instrumentation is very flat and lifeless.  It soundsl ike one keyboard did all the music as opposed to having guitars or other real instruments.

Even Bowie's remix had guitars on it.  If you're gonna do a faithful cover, why do it of a remix?  I would have liked to see him, if a faithful cover, do the original.

Unlike many of you, I really like this Bowie/John Lennon collaborative effort.  Cool song.

I like both of Bowie's versions better.

Boy should have done "Man Who Sold the World" instead. Fuck all if Nirvana did it "Unplugged," Weiland would have rocked it left and right and up the walls more than Cobain & Co. ever could...Everyone would have forgotten about Nirvana covering it.

I dunno, there was something special about when Nirvana performed on Unplugged. Every single song was amazing.

X2

Cobain made that tune his own IMO. While Weiland would probably do an admirable job, it would come off pretty lame if he did the same cover.

I never knew Fame was a David Bowie tune either. I never really paid attention I guess.
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

Would it have been so amazing had Cobain not died 5 months after the recording? Hell, the whole performance was set up like a public funeral. I can understand the nostalgia.

But still, Weiland doing his own version of MWSTW would be, at the least, ballsy.

I really don't care what y'all are saying about "there are better Bowie songs" (which of course there are; Scott said he'd really like to do "Young Americans" on a recent radio interview) and that it "sounds out of place."  The song grooves and it rocks.  The wall of dueilling Scott harmonies and the chunking distortion guitar...freaking great.

The original song doesn't really go anywhere either.

Also, it sounds so amazing right after She Sold Her System.
