Good is just a vague term. Kretz brings a lot to the table, man. He can write tunes, he can keep a beat, he's a wonderful fit for STP. Is he a good drummer? It's up for debate, I think there are rational arguments for both sides. Is he a good fit for STP? Absolutely.

Personally, I think Kretz is one of the worst drummers ever to be in a popular rock band. It sounds like he's banging on paper plates stacked on top of each other. He's not overly melodic- He fucked up Naked Sunday on SNL- He's just a downright bad drummer. Nothing against the guy personally but seriously, what a shitty drummer. I can't picture him NOT being in STP, but still.....

He can write tunes

Trippin' is one song. He wrote one song for them, and helped write Sex Type Thing, Naked Sunday, Crackerman, and Where The River Goes, and I honestly question how much he helped. I remember somewhere Dean or Rob saying he thought of the intro drums on Naked Sunday, and that was it. Dean says Erik thought of the chorus to STT. The rest? Who knows.

Even if you're being sarcastic that's still pretty sad.

Personally, I think you're entitled to your opinion but you don't need to keep going on about "banging on paper plates/cardboard boxes" or whatever all the time. You've made your point more than once. No offence.

I'll just make the same response I did on the AoA board. If you're comparing Eric to anyone, it should be Charlie Watts - a solid, snappy player with a great snare sound and a real jazzman's swing. Does it for me every time.

Granted, but my comments were positive whereas Jeremy's were negative.

At the end of the day, this is an STP board. You won't find me joining any Pearl Jam boards and moaning on about any members of that band - in fact, I haven't even done it in the PJ thread here.

Actually I said that once, don't know where you get "All the time" from. And this is a discussion forum, in a topic asking if you think he's a good drummer.... Hmmmm... So call me crazy but I was posting my thoughts on his drumming ability. Maybe this was the wrong place to do that?

So what if your comments were "positive" and mine were "negative"- You still appear hypocritical in telling me not to say the same thing (I guess twice is too many times?) and yet you can say the same response.

Fair enough - in any case, I apologise for a poorly thought-out post on my part. I overreacted, stupid of me.

I still don't see how Eric can be described as a "bad drummer" but, hey, whatever.

Fair enough. We can agree to disagree. It's cool you think he's a nice drummer but I personally am not too big on the Kretzel's work.

I think he complements the deleo's nicely on all the records that he has played on, but would have to admit he kinda sucks.  I think the parts he comes up with are perfect but in a live situation he isn't ideal.  Just not anywhere near being a human metronome.  Just saying...
