id rather have a "boring" drummer and great songs, than a drummer who beats the shit out of his set and have mediorce songs, at beast.

Eric is very capable of playing fast, but who wants to see that shit all night?  in my opinion, there were no self-indulgent musicians in STP.  their main focus was on writing great, class songs.  and they did.

it's the self-indulgent musicians, who feel the need to masturbate their instrument every 2 minutes, that i find extremely boring.

well. Ray is a great drummer, but the drum solo was a bit too long, and a bit too much - towards the end i was like, "ok dude, you can play the drums, i get it"  i prefer the edited version of the song.  i dont like his fills at all, especially on the STP covers.  it's nothing against him personally, i just dont like his drumming that much.

my favorite drummers are the ones who lay it down, hard, simple, and keeping it coming, no solos.  apart from Kretz, i really like Victor Indrizzo - he played on Scott Weiland's solo album and tour, and he was also the drummer of Magnificent Bastards.

Dave Grohl is a pretty awesome drummer too.

Grohl's work on Songs For The Deaf was superb.

Hell yeah. He was a BEAST on that album. Amazing considering he didn't play for a long time.
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

Eric is a great drummer. and forget that stp's music is all about rock n roll, it has to be steady.

im not a musician and i dont know shit about drumming and i never really paid attention to it until i heard the AOA guy Ray Luzier...that dude is just fuckin sick...i find myself listening to the army of anyone cd half the time listening to his drumming...Any why would you say you came to a point where you were like "ok dude, you can play the drums i get it" isnt that the whole point to showcase your talent through the course of a song...guitarists get to do their solos  but the drummers supposed to just sit back hittin 2 drums back and forth just to make sure he doesnt interfere with the song...i dunno just my opinion

I played for a long time also.  I'd say Eric is a very good solid drummer.  Not too many bells and whistles but the man knows his shit and knows it well!

I've always liked Kretz a lot as a drummer. A hell of a lot better than Sorum so I'm very glad STP is back together.

Kretz v. Luzier

Eric Kretz and Ray Luzier both do a fantastic job accompanying the Deleo brothers.  Kretz drives a heavy steady beat with some kick ass fills.  Ray is an amped up drummer with amazing "prog-style" time sequencing skills.

BOTH are great in their own.

If I had to pick, I'd always pick Eric Kretz

Wow those pics are uh... kinda scary... but yeah.... I've always appreciated the power of Eric's playing in the STP sound. I'm actually surprised there are threads questioning his skill.
