STP Discussion at Steve Hoffman Forum
« Reply #135 on: May 29, 2008, 05:43:17 AM »
Steve Hoffman is an audio engineer, and many of the posters at his forum are very concerned about issues of audio quality. There's a thread going on discussing each STP album (primarily the music, not just audio quality) going on there now, and I thought I'd invite anyone here who wanted to chime in. We're just wrapping up Core and about to move on the Purple.

Some goofball over there is reviewing Core as if he's very informed about the band and their music and then refers to Wicked Garden as "Secret Garden".  Ahhhhh.... "music guys" at their best.

On another note, I was just mentioning the production of these albums in another thread. Do we have an album production thread to discuss the sound quality on each one somewhere? :)

Well I surely have no idea, but it would be grand. For one, the mastering of even the later STP albums certainly were better than the suckfest overdriven distorted job on Californication and By The Way (from one of the only bands I can honestly say surpass STP for me, despite Vlado Mueller's mastering butchery).

His favorite on Purple will be "Interstate Love Affair".

That was awesome! Thank you. It's definitely one of those albums that was underappreciated at the time but now that rock music has crap music now, it definitely puts into perspective what a great band STP is.

Awesome find! I can't believe this guy doesn't dig Piece of Pie though, thats an amazing track. Other than that, I enjoyed reading his ratings & notes. Core is undoubtedly one of the essential records of the 1990's.

not liking Piece of Pie, thats odd .. good review didnt like how hed compare songs to there peers, ala saying "where the river goes" and comparing it to soundgardens "outshined" when it an obvious Zepp influenced tune .. adn did Rob really say "now what?" ,, thought it was Brendan Obrien

I love Piece of Pie.  :)  So much I call my other half Pie.  ;D ;D

Anyway, great review.  Especially since most music now sucks ass.

i like piece of pie alot, but the review is totally right, its a really weak song lyrically.
anyways, great review, i was actually kind of surprised that it was so positive. not that i don't disagree with the review, its just that critics have never been all too keen on giving stp the props they deserve.

Haha well i guess it all works out in the end cause soundgarden was heavily influenced by Zep...well at least Cornell. I think he only compared them to peers just as a point of reference because he def made the point that they were able to distance themselves.

YES. quite well said. That actually is a killer review of the disc. Although, I love Piece Of Pie. It jams and they rock it live!

Me too. I prefer it to Sin.
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

I think Sin is one of the best live tracks off core. The riff is just too killer!

I'm glad No Memory got some props. I wish they'd play this tune more often. It'd be a nice interlude into another song.
