First off, I was at the show last night and it was great. I was at the rail directly in front of Robert. The energy from the band was amazing. You could definitely tell they were all into it and having a great time. On more than a couple occasions you could see the band talking amongst themselves and sharing a laugh. They truly looked to be enjoying themsleves. At one point Robert was even helping Scott scratch his ass. It was pretty funny.
As for the Axl, G'n'R chants, I didn't hear them from where I was. However, It doesn't suprise me they occurred. There are assholes everywhere, and at concerts there are always plenty of drunken assholes on top of it. Some people are going to say and do whatever they want to try and look cool or to impress someone. What are you going to do. Hopefully, it just doesn't get too disruptive where someone gets hurt. Which brings me to...
Why do people throw shit at the stage. I'm not talking about a shirt or a hat (which did happen. Scott wore it for awhile and then threw it back into the crowd), I'm talking about beer cans or bottles, or anything else that could hit someone and quite possibly stop the show. I guess that might be what some of these people are trying to do. I just can't believe it when I see it. A band is putting on a great show and you are going to screw it up for everyone and destroy the mood because you want to throw a can at the stage. Unbelieveable how selfish some people are. Towards the end of the show and durring the encore there were numerous flying objects lobbed towards the stage. The band, to their credit, kept going without missing a beat. It's just a shame to see it. Show some respect people. For all those people chanting for Axl I would like to see them after he walks off the stage because someone has offended his sensiblilities by throwing something at him. Be careful what you ask (chant) for. Which brings me to...
What is it with people expecting the headliner to go on right at the time the ticket says the show starts? A rock concert is not an event like a movie in a theater with a set time where everything just happens just because the clock says it should. If you are expecting the headliner to go on at 8 you are just plain naive. That may be when the opening act starts, but not the headliner. If there is no opening act, you are probably in for a wait, unless it's a band that generally plays a 2-3 hour set and even then you may be waiting (hello G'n'R). The headliner is generally not coming on till 9, so by that standard STP actually came out a little early last night. I'm niot saying I like waiting around endlessly, but for christs sake stop all the "they were late" junk. It gets old. Enjoy the experience, hang out with some friends, chill... At the very least a G'n'R fan should know when the headliner takes the stage..I believe "the show usually starts around 7 and we go on stage around 9"
