I. AM. INSANELY. JEALOUS! :D

I agree, the small venues are where it's at as far as STP goes.  I think they put on a better show when it's a smaller group.

I am rather embarrassed that they were cheering for Axl.  That probably pissed Scott off to no end. :P  It would have pissed me off for sure.

What a great review.  I'm with the reviewer.  If they make another album and tour it, they can take as long as they want to hit the stage.  I'll wait.

I figured they wouldn't be on when they said they were.. It took a while for the roadies and techs to set shit up.. They were obviously stalling. I frankly don't care. The show was an experience of a lifetime.. I hope every STP fan has a chance to experience a show like that!

I wouldn't want them to come on at 8pm anyway, especially on a Thursday.  I would want some time to get lubed up for the show if I had worked that day.

First off, I was at the show last night and it was great. I was at the rail directly in front of Robert. The energy from the band was amazing. You could definitely tell they were all into it and having a great time. On more than a couple occasions you could see the band talking amongst themselves and sharing a laugh. They truly looked to be enjoying themsleves. At one point Robert was even helping Scott scratch his ass. It was pretty funny.

As for the Axl, G'n'R chants, I didn't hear them from where I was. However, It doesn't suprise me they occurred. There are assholes everywhere, and at concerts there are always plenty of drunken assholes on top of it. Some people are going to say and do whatever they want to try and look cool or to impress someone. What are you going to do. Hopefully, it just doesn't get too disruptive where someone gets hurt. Which brings me to...

Why do people throw shit at the stage. I'm not talking about a shirt or a hat (which did happen. Scott wore it for awhile and then threw it back into the crowd), I'm talking about beer cans or bottles, or anything else that could hit someone and quite possibly stop the show. I guess that might be what some of these people are trying to do. I just can't believe it when I see it. A band is putting on a great show and you are going to screw it up for everyone and destroy the mood because you want to throw a can at the stage. Unbelieveable how selfish some people are. Towards the end of the show and durring the encore there were numerous flying objects lobbed towards the stage. The band, to their credit, kept going without missing a beat. It's just a shame to see it. Show some respect people. For all those people chanting for Axl I would like to see them after he walks off the stage because someone has offended his sensiblilities by throwing something at him. Be careful what you ask (chant) for. Which brings me to...

What is it with people expecting the headliner to go on right at the time the ticket says the show starts? A rock concert is not an event like a movie in a theater with a set time where everything just happens just because the clock says it should. If you are expecting the headliner to go on at 8 you are just plain naive. That may be when the opening act starts, but not the headliner. If there is no opening act, you are probably in for a wait, unless it's a band that generally plays a 2-3 hour set and even then you may be waiting (hello G'n'R). The headliner is generally not coming on till 9, so by that standard STP actually came out a little early last night. I'm niot saying I like waiting around endlessly, but for christs sake stop all the "they were late" junk. It gets old. Enjoy the experience, hang out with some friends, chill... At the very least a G'n'R fan should know when the headliner takes the stage..I believe "the show usually starts around 7 and we go on stage around 9"

Take it easy

^^^I didnt care that they didnt come out at the time the ticket said... I could have waited hours to see that.. It was amazing..I was just pissed because those people were yelling that shit.. Show some respect. They were starting to get pissed cuz they figured the band should be on right when they chanted for them... It was pissing me off..

I honestly don't know why this is even talked about ...........it's a Weilland image that he has created and adds to the excitement. Duh it's called fashionably late. He's always been doing it in the past...did it for every show with vr...and is still doin it every night.
He is a true show man!!!

Yep, Hawk.  All bands used to do this purposely to make the fans a little rowdy and anxious when they finally hit the stage.  I think it's becoming more of an issue these days because of ridiculous curfew problems.  Jeezy Creezy, screw a bunch of curfews and let the band be the band.

tyberiusm, great recap.  Thanks!! ;D

I agree with all of the late shit.  It's a fucking rock show.  They never go on stage as the clock strikes 8pm.  :P

I don't know why people insist on being assholes either.  If they were up on stage and someone threw shit at them (bottles, etc) they would get THEIR panties all in a bunch.  Have respect.  WTF?  People pay to go to a show and then throw shit??  Idiots.

damn, I am so jealous.
and disappointed to hear about the behavior of some audience members.. people are just unfathomably rude and stupid sometimes. especially in large groups.

Has anyone ever seen that footage of an early silverchair show where the singer gets clocked right in the forehead with a bottle, and then keeps right on going with blood running down his face? poor kid.. I can't imagine putting up with shit like that. what's wrong with people?

and rock shows NEVER start on time.. I don't think any rock gig I've ever seen or played has started exactly when it was supposed to. there's always some kind of delay with live performances of any kind. just how it goes.

I was about 7 people in from the rail in front of Robert. Another thing I heard stupid people yelling was, "Scott, put down the heroin and get onstage!" It's like they really thought that was original. A lot of meatheads in the crowd. I also didn't really expect them to come on at 8:00. That means the show would've been over by 10 or 10:30 and that's no fun. I expected around 9:00. I've seen them, I think, about 5 times. On every tour except the Core tour. This has to be one of the best. Definitely the best, most diverse set list since the Tiny Music tour. They were so tight and sounded great! My ears are still ringing. Robert was awesome to watch. He interacted with the fans a lot and actually busted out more dance moves I think than Weiland. I never noticed before how he kind of mouths the basslines while he plays. He seems to have so much fun up there. One of the better bass players around. I think his busier melodic basslines really help STP to sound so full live with only one bass, guitar and drums. Scott was sounding great and seems to be building up his stamina and endurance more than when they first got back together. For instance, Trippin' on a Hole was totally powerhouse vocals all the through unlike the Jimmy Kimmel and Houdini Mansion performances where he seemed to be out of breath a bit because that song is such a mouthful to sing. My wife and I held up a sign that said "Please Make Another Album!" and I saw them all look at it and Dean pointed and nodded at the end of the show. It was cool too that from my angle I could get a decent side shot of the drum kit and watch Kretz play more than usual. Scott said some funny stuff onstage too. The part where Robert helped him scratch his ass was after Scott said something to the effect of "The bad part of being a rock star is that when you have to turn around and scratch your ass, everyone can see you." That's when Robert came over and scratched it for him. Everyone was on top of their game and there were a lot of smiles between the band members and lots of leaning in and talking in each other's ears. They all seemed to get along great. I can't wait for a new album to add to my STP rotation!

Also... How fricking sweet was it when they were showing what looked like car chase scense from Bullit during Crackerman. All their visuals were great!

Man, all these great reviews make me so pumped for next week.

Yeah, who the fuck expects a band to take the stage on time? I alway enjoy that whole bit where the crowd chants the band's name for a while, stops, chants again, stops, then the lights get dark and everyone just fucking screams.

It's also always good to hear about the laughing and joking; when you can tell musicians and actors are enjoying their part, it makes it so much more special.
