Record labels are idiots. Run by businessmen instead of music lovers.

Every first single will always be the song that is 3 minutes and 30 seconds and is the most accesable pop song on the album (which isn't necessarily the best, and in most cases tends to be the worst song)

After hearing some Filter lyrics live the other night the Father Issue seems to be one that reocurs in his lyrics.
HEY, DAD, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR SONNNN NOWWWWWWWW!

Richard used to own before his whole political kick.

I always thought that was a very powerful lyric, its actually not political.Richard has said that his Father never supported or had any belief in his aspirations to be a successful rock star.

I loved Good Time to Loosen..why it wasn't on the cd I'll never know....I also loved messages for VR which wasn't on the CD

This is something I'll never understand myself, it seems nowadays that the "unreleased" material turns out to be much, much better than some of the stuff that is on any albums. Why they take these off confuses me, "Messages" from Velvet Revolver was a great song, and "Gas And A Dollar Laugh" is another. As for STP, "Only Dying", "You Can't Drive Me Away" were great singles as well. Even with Ozzy Osbourne, his music that doesn't make the cut if you will, that does are better than some of the stuff that does make the album in the end. . . Really Weird.

Again however, "Father Figure" should not have been the second choice, perhaps "A Better Place" would've been much better.

I think Father Figure just didn't fit on that record period. It's obviously something Rich wrote before AOA were formed, it sounds sooo Filter, not a bad song, just out of place on that record, it would have been better on 'The Amalgamut'.
As for Rich and his father, they are actually really close, maybe they weren't at one time though. If you watch the making of the 'Take A Picture' video (I think it's on Youtube), Rich's dad is on the set and Rich explains the lyric 'Hey Dad what do you think about your son now?', the song was written about a time Rich (during his alcoholic days) got wasted on a plane and took all his clothes off, hence 'what do you think about your son now?'. I love that lyric and that song though because it can be interpreted in many different ways and that part in particular is just so powerful.
Nothing matters again, I didn\'t think we\'d last that long

That's exactly why I think it was chosen as the second single. The first didn't do a whole lot. And so they probably felt that "Father Figure" being the most Filter-ish, would cater to those fans.

Considering that Filter does ok. I was surprised that more people didn't hop on the AoA bandwagon. I mean, of course, AoA wasn't Filter, but Richard Patrick IS Filter, you'd figure their fans would have followed along.
