Ok call me stupid if everyone else knows and im a little behind, but just what the hell does "stone temple pilots" mean?  where did they come up with the name?

they stoned and wanted to keep the Stone Temple Pilots logo, so they combined 3 words that sounded cool.

And don't forget that little tidbit about their first pick for a name... Shirley Temple's Pussy.  (They figured that wouldn't fly.)  I think they go on about the name issue in that CD interview/booklet deal.

Well Its not Really  Stone or a Temple but no where close to Pilots.....

But what I am trying to say is.... Man where those good times in Woodstock.

After they found out Mighty Joe Young was taken, they were toying around with different ideas.  Someone (I believe Rob) remember how he/everyone used to have Stone Temple Pilots stickers (motor oil) on their bikes back in the day.  He thought they would be cool initials so they starting thinking up variations on it.  They've come up with many bullshit meanings for the name, like when Dean said that it was because your body is the Temple and you're the pilot of your own destiny or some cockamamy shit.  In the end though it has no real meaning.

According to the Interview disc, a fan was the one that ran the "temple" idea past Dean.  He then later told the story to a reporter.   :)

In the early days all they had to do was get some "Stone Temple Pilots" stickers from checker auto and promote their show without having to spend allot of $$ on a printer.....

well they saw a STP sticker and liked it and decided to call themselves mighty joe young but the record people didn't like that so they went to shirly temple's pussy but that was taken so they settled on stone temple pilots after hooking up with chris cornell in temple of the dog.
